K'lvin trailed his fingers slowly along the curve of Bahji's thigh,
dipping down to circle around the bend in the back of her leg and
tickling slightly. "I've missed you," he said, marveling at the way
the sunlight filtered into the weyr, creating a golden brown halo out
of her hair.

Bahji snuggled against K'lvin's chest with a soft sigh. "Silly man.
I'm right here." She kissed the muscle of his chest over his heart
before tipping her head back. She touched his face with light fingers,
taking in his expression with the touch.

"I know," he murmured, leaning into the touch of her fingers. "I just
can't get enough of you," he confessed. Bahji had filled a place in
his heart that he hadn't realized was open.

Bahji's smile was gentle as she spoke, her voice loving but also
holding a hint of sorrow. "You'll have to, you know. You can't hold me
forever, as much as I might like it. " She laid her palm against his
cheek.

"Why not?" K'lvin's brow wrinkled as his arms reflexively tightened
around her. "I'll never let you go. Xmrenth holds one half of my heart
and you the other."

"Oh, K'lvin. You know why." Her voice was gentle, even as she cuddled
even closer. She stroked his cheek with gentle hands. Her eyes lifted
and surprisingly locked on his. "I know you miss me. I can see it. I'm
glad I was never able to see that hurt on your face before."

He couldn't breath, his lungs were frozen in his chest as he stared
back into her beautiful, warm brown eyes, which were sparkling, bright
and gazing directly into his as she had never done before. "Bahji," he
choked out her name, feeling that aching chasm opening in the pit of
his stomach.

"Shhh…It's okay. I'm okay. " She wrapped her arms around him tightly
and held him, one hand buried in his hair as she pressed her cheek to
his. Her voice whispered in his ear. "You're okay. I love you. I will
always love you. And you'll love me. I know that. " She pulled away to
look into his face again, brushing her mouth against his softly, then
again. "But you can let me go. You don't need to hold on to me so
tight. It's not good for you."

"No," he gasped, finding his cheeks were wet with tears. "I can't,
Bahji, I can't."

She cupped his face again. "Yes, you can. For me, you can. And for
you. And for our daughter. She needs to see you happy. I need to see
you happy."

She kissed him again. "It wasn't your fault, K'lvin. It was never your
fault. I didn't blame you. Not for one second."

"I blame me, I should have come for you first. If I had put you first
that day you would still be here. I love you, Bahji." Even as he said
the words and tried to hug her more tightly to him, he could feel the dream beginning to slip.

She returned the embrace. "I am here. Just look at Kaliha, you silly
man." Her lips found his, sweet and soft. "I love you, too" The last
words trailed away as her form seemed to fade away...

.... K'lvin jerked awake from the dream with a gasp, bolting upright as cold sweat glistened over his skin. His heart pounded loudly in his ears as his hands searched frantically through the rumpled sheets of his bed.

"Bahji?" he whispered brokenly. Only the sounds of Xmrenth's wafting breaths in the weyrcouch answered him.

He hurriedly went back over the dream, trying to memorize the way she had felt in his arms, the way she had looked in detail. What if he never had a dream like this again? Never saw her again?

"...you can let me go," she had said. The visage of another woman's face loomed before him in the darkness- Riveenata.

He recalled the wounded expression in her eyes the day before when he had left after Savith's flight. She had asked him to stay.... Why hadn't he? Why was he really withholding himself from her? He'd been using the excuse of his health but now he realized that a part of his reluctance had also stemmed from his love for Bahji. He would always love her....

But she was gone. And he knew, even if it had been said in a dream, that she would want him to move forward. He knew she would tell him to quit moping and start living.

Starting tomorrow, he was going to do just that.
