Description: Thanja brings her son to the infirmary for the Weyrhealer to take a look at his injured arm
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 11 of Turn 3

"Oww!" the boy clutched at his arm as they entered the infirmary.

"It hurts Mama!"

"I know son," replied the Hallsecond, "Let's get the healers to look at this, I'm sure that they can give you something to ease the pain."

"Oh dear, oh dear, what have we here?" Pacham asked as he walked over to lay a hand on the boy's shoulder. "Tanrin, isn't it?"

"Yes," he said grimacing as another twinge struck him.

"He fell," said Thanja.

"I was playing ball games on the beach."

"I see," the Weyrhearler said as he gently turned the arm over. "Oh yes, that looks painful. Can you close your hand for me?"

Slowly the boy tried to do that. It hurt him, you could tell from the expression on his face, but he managed it, despite the way the arm was beginning to redden and swell.

"Can you tell if it is broken or not?" asked Thanja.

"Well, its not a complete break," Pacham nodded. "I think its fractured, though."

"Fractured?" questioned Thanja.

"Yes, not a complete break, but the bone is cracked a bit. I'm sure that doesn't make your arm feel any better, does it young man," Pacham said with a simpathetic smile.

"It hurts," said the lad, gingerly reaching over to rub it. He thought for a moment. "Will I have to stop playing ball?"

"Well, just for a little while," the healer said sympathetically. "You don't want to make it worse, do you?"

"No."

"Is he going to need it strapped up?" asked his mother.

"Most definitely," Pacham said as he opened the cupboard for a spint and bandages. "And he will need to put some ice on it, and I will have a tea for him to drink that will help his body mend."

Tanrin pulled a face. "It's for your own good," said Thanja. "What about getting this changed? How often will we have to come up here?"

"I would like him to come once a sevenday. We must be careful about infection with bone fractures."

"Does that mean I'm going to get sick?" asked the boy.

"No, I don't think so," Pacham said reassuringly as he began gently wrapping the bandages around his arm. "The tea I will give you should help fight off any infection but we should be careful anyway."

"I'm not going to get sick Mama."

"We won't let you," she replied.

The Weyrhealer smiled at the both. "Most certainly not." After wrapping the arm carefully he wrote out a note and handed it to Thanja. "The herbalist can give you this tea. I want Tanrin to drink it twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the evening. There's a little something in it for the pain, but also something to fight infection and to aid in the bone's healing. I would also like him to put some ice on it for the first few days to keep the swelling down, but no more than 20 minutes at a time. The kitchens should be able to supply it for you."

Thanja nodded. "All we can hope for now is that he doesn't break the other one to match it."

"Oh, I think Tanrin understands the need to take it easy for the next month," Pacham said with a knowing smile directed towards the boy. "Don't you, lad?"

"Yes sir."

"All right then," Pacham said giving the boy's shoulder a squeeze. He looked at the Hallsecond with a confident smile. "I think that's all for now. Four sevendays and it should be all better, but he will have to do a bit of therapy to restore his arm to its usual strength. But we have a while before we need to worry about that."

She nodded. "Either myself or my husband will bring him up next sevenday to get this checked."

"That's just fine," Pacham nodded. "I look forward to meeting you again next sevenday then, Tanrin."

"Yes sir."
