Saibra

While it was a rather warm day for Dragonsfall standards, Saibra was
still grateful for the hot tropical air above Dolphin Cove as Chioneth
thundered out of /between/, announcing her arrival to the blue dragon
on watch duty. The visiting queen gave the Dolphin Cove bronzes an
assessing glance as she spiraled down to a neat, if a little flashy,
landing on Panitath's ledge.

**Well?** Saibra asked, plucking her helmet off and shaking out her
main of black hair.

}:Well, what?:{ Chioneth asked, far too innocently.

**Did you get the looks you were fishing for?**

Chioneth sniffed. }:Can a gold not land in style?:{

The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman barked in laughter, shedding her riding
jacket and gloves and leaving them hanging from Chioneth's riding
straps as she dismounted. **Please don't take my jacket and gloves
down into the ocean.**

}:I'll do my best. I do like 'fishing' after all....:{ Chioneth said slyly.

"Hello the weyr," Saibra called after thumping Chioneth's flank and
heading into Cyradis' weyr.

"Hello and Welcome," Cyradis walked out onto the ledge with her arms
open wide. "You look lovely Saibra," she smiled. The tightness around
the eyes had lightened and her friend seemed in a very good mood. "It
is so very good to see you," she said and then turned to Chioneth.
"And you are most welcome too," she bowed her head for a moment to the
visiting gold dragon.

"And you look radiant as well," Saibra greeted, wrapping her arms
around her friend. "You have found the secret to anti-aging, clearly."

Cyradis rolled her eyes but chuckled as she turned toward the interior
of her weyr. "I'm beginning to hate that word," she said. "I'm hoping
the healers can come up with something to stem the flit-feet beginning
around my eyes." She patted the corners of her eyes and crossed to the
sideboard. "Klah or Citroncello?"

"Klah," Saibra requested as she took a seat in the chair that she
typically occupied when she visited.

"How are the babies," Cyradis asked as she poured a fresh one for
herself along with the one for Saibra. Then she brought them back to
hand one to her friend.

"Growing like weeds," Saibra was happy to report. "And what about your
latest addition? A grandbaby, I heard?"

"Yes," Cyradis grinned. "Though it's somehow hard to to really believe
at times. I was so thankful when he decided to come here. You know,"
she looked at the other Weyrwoman. "Your kids are always your kids no
matter how big they get. It's very hard to let them go and make
mistakes without trying to fix things for them. Right?"

Saibra thought of the mistakes she had made with Saidrene, and how
they were now tentatively rebuilding a friendship. "Yes, you're right.
Saidrene's pregnant, actually. So I suppose I'll be experiencing the
wonders of being a grandmother soon.... Although the word
grandmother..." She shuddered.

That brought a full throated chuckle from Cyradis. She shook her head.
"I've missed you."

"And I have missed you, too." It was nice to have one person she could
talk to who was also in the unique position of being a Weyrwoman. "So,
I need to pick your brain on something... Ashela and Lanniya."

"Right," Cyradis nodded and she sat back slowly lifting her cup. "Is
everything alright?"

"Yes, for now Ashela has settled in without incident. What I'm torn
between is deciding who should be my Weyrwoman's Second and who should
be my Wingthird. Age alone would dictate that Ashela should be my
'second, but given what happened at Barrier Lake, I'm not sure how
much I would trust her in that position right now." Saibra took a sip
before continuing. "Then on the other hand, while I do trust Lanniya
_personally_, shells, I'd even say we are friends, she's still young
enough to make irresponsible decisions and she's often caught up in
her personal life." It was hard to forget the incident that had gotten
Lanniya moved from River Bluff.

Saibra looked back up at Cyradis. "I am leaning toward Ashela as my
'second, after a probationary period, and Lanniya as my wingthird...
If it were you, what would you do?"

"Not an easy choice," she mused. "Lanniya is still full young and
needs more seasoning." She felt the same way about Dessa. "And it
would seem that Ashela doesn't always make the best choices. Yet you
also have to weigh that woman's reaction to taking any kind of orders
from a younger goldrider. I'd hate to put Lanniya in a position where
she couldn't succeed." She put a finger to her lips in thought. "You
know what I've been thinking about here was adding a seasoned
bronzerider to the Queen's Wing to lead them when I can't and then
making Dessa my Weyrsecond teach her on the day-to-day duties like
meeting with the Headwoman and managing tithe and Weyr records."

"Oh yes, I've thought about that too, actually." Saibra admitted.
"I've interviewed some riders for my Wingsecond position, bronze or
brown, to oversee the Wing for 'fall so that there isn't a gap in
leadership during clutches. My thoughts are that my Weyrsecond would
oversee Weyr duties, my Wingsecond the Wing, and then the Wingthird
would be an assistant for the Wingsecond, again mostly related to
Threadfall duties.

"Yes, exactly what I was thinking. It certainly would take the strain
off a compromised rider or a very inexperienced one. Plus the
advantage of giving you two assistants rather than one." Cyradis
smiled. "I will admit that it was a bit of a struggle here when you
left." She thought back to that time and how very much she'd
appreciated Saibra as her 'second.

Saibra smiled at the compliment. "Teseada was a good 'second. I guess
that's the thing, if you have a good 'second they're probably going to
end up somewhere else along the way."

"That's pretty much the way of things." She smiled back. "I've heard
good things about Teseada both from you and Hygalia. Perhaps she'll be
a good help to Kapera."

"I think she will be." Saibra said. "How are things with you and
N'vanik? It seems Panitath has been very consistent with Loseth as a
mate."

"Actually excellent," she smiled back. "N'vanik is a very good leader,
even D'hol and Yumath couldn't shake him loose." she chuckled. "But
I'm glad he's finally gotten his chance with Kapera. I think they'll
make a good team." She thought a moment and then. "I hope you don't
mind my asking, but is everything alright with Saidrene?

"You mean, the pregnancy?" she asked.

"Well yes, but more than that, just seems... distracted and unhappy."

"News of the pregnancy hasn't been met with as much joy as she had
hoped, I think." Saibra said, tracing her finger along the rim of her
cup. "She is pretty sure that the baby is K'ran's, but J'ackt and Zith
were at Barrier Lake and won Saidrene's flight, placing it within the
realm of possibility that he is the father. When he found out he
berated her for not aborting the baby immediately. He said he would
never speak to her again. She's taken that pretty hard."

Cyradis sat up straight, "He did what? He had no right to do anything
of the sort! Whether or not he was the father makes no difference."

"Yes, well, when has J'ackt ever really considered someone's feelings
but his own? I know it was upsetting for Saidrene. I think she is settling in at Barrier Lake, making new friends there, and she really seems invested in K'ran." Saibra hoped so, at least, because she thought the even-tempered
bronzerider was a good thing for her daughter.

"Well, more than half the riders here were flight babes. Two of my own
were for that matter." She tamped down the outrage she'd been feeling
and smiled. "I am glad for her, K'ran is a very good man." she nodded.
"Have you been to visit Barrier Lake yet? It's lovely."

"I have visited a few times. I think it's quite beautiful and
interesting in the way it's laid out. It's giving me the itch to do
some remodeling around Dragonsfall," she admitted.

Cyradis laughed at that. "Only if you get to Master Bilpen first," she said.
