"Master Thayde, Master Thayde!" The apprentice crashed into the room
where the Hallmaster was working with a group of Journeymen. "The
Weyrwoman is coming down the beach. Sir, she's _walking_!"

"Well, son, that's generally what people do with their legs." Thayde
said in return. "I'd better go see if the Weyrwoman is here on
business," he said to the journeymen gathered.

Urlene walked beside Cyradis, her pale face flushed slightly with the
exertion and heat of the sun. She didn't often take such walks and it
showed, but she kept up with the Weyrwoman's strides without
complaint. She didn't come to the Hall often as she'd had little
need to, but the visit was one she was looking forward to.

A large shadow glided over them and a cry of greeting.

Cyradis twisted to look at the gold over her head. "Oh go home," she
laughed. "Or play with the dolphins!" She shook her head as the
golden form plunged into the sea far out from where they walked.
"She's worse than my mother ever was."

"I'm not surprised she's here." Urlene murmured. "Dragons don't seem
to like being separated from their riders and this is very important."
She looked up as a man appeared.

The figure of the Hallmaster appeared outside the Hall. Making his way
down onto the beach, Thayde met the Weyrwoman and her companion.
"Weyrwoman, to what do we owe this pleasure today?" he asked.

"Only that thing that most women visit the hall for," she grinned.
"This is Master Urlene," she swept her hand toward her companion.
"She is the Weyrhealer. She requires that I find out if the pregnancy
she's diagnosed is seated properly." She took a deep breath. "If it
isn't..."

"I see." Thayde said. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Weyrhealer. If
you ladies will, keep walking down to the pier, I'll go get everything
ready and meet you there." The Hallmaster inclined his head to both
women before turning to the apprentice at his elbow. "Go ring the
dolphin bell for Ada." These words sent the apprentice off at a jog.

"It's a pleasure, Master Thayde." Urlene inclined her head at the
greeting and began walking with Cyradis towards the indicated pier.
"Did you bring something else to wear, Cyradis?"

"I did," she said. "I have a short shift and shorts I usually use to
bathe Panitath under the dress." They walked to the place Master
Thayde had indicated to find him waiting for them.

When the Hallmaster returned he was in his swim attire and a familiar
shadow lurked in the water. "Sorry for the wait, ladies," he said as
he took the steps down into the water and then reached back up to give
the Dolphin Cove Weyrwoman a hand in descending.

Urlene offered a hand to Cyradis from above to assist her down the
narrow stands. She didn't attempt to enter the water, having not
brought anything but the dress she wore, so held back. Still, she
watched with interest; she'd seen the dolphins work before of course,
but was always fascinated in their capabilities to look into the human
body so easily.

Cyradis pulled the dress over her head and dropped it on the pier then
took the offered hands to safely descend the wet steps. It wasn't the
same as wading into the waters of the Weyrlake where the sand sank
slightly beneath one's feet to give traction, She'd done this kind of
thing before, but this time she was a bit apprehensive because of the
Master Healer's warnings. But she tried not to let that show as she
smiled at Thayde. Of course the water came up higher on her than on
him but she could swim so that didn't concern her.

Thayde's hand on Cyradis anchored her in the water as the tide ebbed
around them. "Lady Cyradis, this is Ada," he said, making
introductions between the Weyrwoman and his dolphin partner.

"Ladyyyy, Ladyyyyy," Ada chanted in a happy squee. The dolphin's head
disappeared back beneath the water and carefully she edged closer.

"She's inviting you to stroke her head," Thayde chuckled to Cyradis.

"Hello Ada," Cyradis said, taking a step closer to the dolphin. She
smiled and used both hands to stroke her head. It didn't feel the same
as dragon hide but smooth. She had seen the pods of dolphins leaping
out of the water with some of them spinning in the air before they
fell. It seemed a very joyous celebration.

Urlene's smile was light as she watched from above, studying the
interplay between dolphin and Cyradis closely. Her main focus,
however, was Cyradis and her impending pregnancy. If the dolphin said
that her pregnancy was dangerous, quick action would have to be taken
to ensure the Weyrwoman's survival. "I suppose you do this often."

"I did," Thayde admitted, "until I became Hallmaster. Sometimes the
hidework gets in the way."

Ada happily received the Weyrwoman's attention.

"Tell me what you see Ada," Thayde said to his partner.

The dolphin snapped out of play mode and began circling the Hallmaster
and Weyrwoman. She made several passes before returning to Cyradis'
abdomen.

"A baaaabyyyyy," Ada declared.

Cyradis certainly knew about hidework but laughed and looked up at
Urlene. "This is amazing," she said to them both.

"It is indeed. As I thought. " Urlene agreed. "Master Thayde, can
your Ada tell if the baby is within the womb or if it's in the tubes
going into the womb?"

Thayde tapped the water with his hand, which brought Ada back up to
the surface. "Check the placement of the baby."

The dolphin bobbed her head in understanding before disappearing
beneath the surface again. It took the dolphin only a moment before
her sleek melon broke the shimmering surface once more. "Babyyyy in
bellllllyyyyyy."

"Thank you, Ada," the Hallmaster reached into his pocket beneath the
water and drew out a treat for Ada. "It seems as though the baby is in
the womb, Weyrwoman," a little smile tipped the corners of his mouth.
"Congratulations."

"Thank you, Master Thayde," Cyradis smiled happily. "And thank you so
very much Ada." She took a deep breath savoring the relief she hadn't
realized she'd feel. Had she been mentally holding her breath? She
had only ever aborted one time intentionally and that had been
difficult for her emotionally. She turned back toward the steps and
began wading out of the water.

Urlene offered Cyradis a hand as she began towards the steps. The last
thing she wanted was for Cyradis to trip or slip on the wet footing.
"Thank you, Master Thayde. Good news." She nodded. Cyradis would still
be grounded throughout her pregnancy, but at least she didn't have to
be concerned with the Weyrwoman's pregnancy being immediately
life-threatening. "Your dolphin is extraordinary."

"Thank you. I am biased, but I think so." Thayde replied to the
Weyrhealer as Ada nudged his hand for another treat.
