Cyradis

}:Panitath asks you to meet with her rider,:{ Jeath announced to
Irrkali with some surprise in her tone.

The Weyrwoman wanted to speak with her? Irrkali had met her before, of
course - as someone who worked with weyrlings and someone whose
dragon produced those weyrlings, they'd occasionally met when one of
her weyrlings would be going to Queen's. But she didn't think any
younger weyrlings were due to be aging into graduating this month...
Perhaps something else had come up. Maybe she wanted her to teach a
specific class.

Well, she wouldn't find out by sitting here thinking about it. **Tell
her I'll be right there,** Irrkali said, getting to her feet and
departing the office.

Cyradis took a moment to pour some klah into her cup and take a sip
before she heard the knock at her door. "Come in," she called.

"Irrkali of Jeath reporting. How are you and Panitath today, Weyrwoman?"

"We're doing quite well," she nodded. "Other than an unexpected
pregnancy which has grounded me even if Panitath weren't on the
Sands." She smiled. "Would you like anything to drink?"

"Yes ma'am, some klah if you have it. Also, congratulations!" she said
with a smile breaking her professional demeanor. "Aren't young ones
thrilling?"

"They are," she nodded as she poured another cup and smiled as she
handed it to Irrkali. "How are you and Jeath doing? Is she fully
recovered?"

"Completely, ma'am. In fact, I did do an interview with M'gan for
Cyclone wing and some flying with them."

"Ah," she smiled. "And how did that go?" She was slightly
disappointed but didn't let that show. "Has he offered you Wingthird
yet?"

"I appreciated the flight experience but we decided it wasn't a good
fit for me to fly with Cyclone." She struggled just a bit to stay
composed at her own words and the accidental double entendre of flight
experience- M'gan had won Jeath and they had decided there was ah
entanglement risk.

"My prior experience was in a lower altitude wing than his," she
added, "and my flying experience since working with weyrlings has
obviously also been low level."

"Alright," Cyradis nodded. "Well then, as you know it's fairly normal
for Queens wing to offer Wingthird to a Jr. Queen but our Dessa isn't
quite experienced enough yet. So I'd thought you might be interested
to fill in. Your experience could be quite beneficial to the Wing."

Irrkali's eyes widened slightly at that. There might be some riders
who found the idea of serving in the Queen's wing to be a bother,
perhaps because they thought it was not as prestigious as the
high-flying Weyrleaders' Wing or the mid-altitudes that did the bulk
of the work. But the Queens wing had great responsibility too because
it protected the golds and the injured and pregnant, with the healthy
riders and dragons forming a fixed core to support it.

"That's quite an honor to be offered, ma'am." she said. "Would you
want me to fly with you as a wingrider and then for trial first?"

"Normally I would, yes." she replied. "But in this case, we're having
to pull this together rather quickly and K'sedel will be leading the
wing for the next few months until after my baby is born. I've been
grounded by Master Urlene. My age, you see. I just want to give him a
strong Wingthird as he'll also be training some younger bronzeriders
as Wingseconds."

"I already have experience working with him, and as a Wingthird, so
that will slot together," she realized. "I'd be honored to."

"Excellent," Cyradis nodded. "Then we can get down to some work on how
the wing is currently organized." She pulled out her current roster
and assignments and turned it so they could both look at the schedule.

"Sounds good to me, ma'am," Irrkali said. Wingthird to the Weyrwoman?
That was one big step.
