Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 1 of Turn 3
Aidiata smiled as she hung yet another tunic on the drying line. She glanced over at her cousins as they gossiped. She would add her opinion here or there and laugh when someone was funny. She loved the simple life of this wonderful farm. She turned to see her friends running toward her.
Nijuli was a pert little red head with a body far to tall for her. Her eyes were slightly slanted and as green as a blade of grass. Her friend Mikialu was the total opposite. He had deep brown hair that went past his shoulders and a mischievous grin. The other little person in their friendship was Guiloka who was younger then Aidiata and the other two.
At the moment, her three friends were racing toward her with excitement.
Mikialu was first due to his longer legs. "Aidi did you see? There are dragons coming. They're coming here." He was jumping with suppressed excitement.
Aidiata put a hand up to shade her eyes as she glanced up. In the distance there were two dragons in the air. Both looked to be greens, and both were heading for there little home. She glanced down to see the family gathering about to see.
}:Saryeth's says that way:{ reported Degroth to her rider.
**Okay, tell her that we should land and go take a look.**
Aidiata watched as the dragons landed in the recently cleared out field.
She admired their beauty. She watched from behind her uncle and grandparents. She could see the slight tenseness in her uncle's stance. She wondered why he was worried.
"Do you think they come on search?" Asked Makailu. "I bet they are. Your uncle's not going to like it."
Oria dismounted, glancing back at A'rie as she did so. "Here?" she asked of him softly.
"Here," replied her fellow greenrider.
"Welcome greenriders. I am Dinote, holder of this farm. To what do we owe the honor of this visit?" The old man strode forward. For a 78-turn old man he was still fit. He held out a hand in greeting and smiled.
"Greeting Holder Dinote," began A'rie. "I am A'rie rider of Saryeth and my companion is Oria, rider of Degrorth. We ride on search."
"Ahh, it has been very long time since any dragonriders have come here on a search. We are always honored to have riders come. Please feel free to look upon our youths." He turned to the group. "Alright, everyone line up."
All of her family and even her friends, lined up. They were looking at the dragons and their riders with expectation. Aidiata still stood partially hidden by her tall uncle. He held his shoulders tensly. She peeked out from behind him. She was planning on staying there until her friends pulled her over by them.
The dragons studied the youths gathered in front of them. Degroth lowered her head slightly as she spotted one, }:That one?:{ It was a question for both her rider and Saryeth.
**Tell Degrorth's yes,** replied A'rie through his green.
Aidiata marveled at the slight difference between the two greens. Mikialu was on her left, while beside her was Guiloka. Nijuli was on the other side of Guiloka trying to keep her from running. Lined up beside them were Aidiata's cousins.
}:There's another,:{ said Degrorth. The green looked over the youths assembled in front of them. }:Him,:{ she said.
Aidiata notice that both dragons' attention were on her little group, and blushed. She could just faint. They couldn't be looking at her could they?
}:Her,:{ Degrorth's mind voice was strong. }:Definitely this one.:{ Dinote watched as the green looked at the youths. He was sure he could pick those that the green had an interest in. He wasn't surprised really. He just hoped his son would keep his manners in check He smiled. "So, has that beautiful green found some hopefuls in our mess of youngins?"
"Degrorth and Saryeth have agreed on three of them Holder Dinote," said Oria.
"Ah, seems we have been raising dragonriders then. So which three have you chosen hmmm..." He smiled as he glanced at the faces filled with hope and anticipation.
Oria let A'rie indicate the chosen three. This was the part she had grown to love so much, seeing the looks on their faces.
Mikialu was nearly bouncing when the young rider stepped up to him. He was more than happy to go. He turned to look at his parents to see the pride in his mother's eyes and the look of concerned pride in his father's.
Nijuli was next. She squealed with glee and looked over at her own parents.
They couldn't be happier. Their daughter was going to have the chance of a lifetime.
Aidiata watched as two of her truest friends were asked to the Weyr. Her heart was in her throat. They would be leaving. Who would she gossip with then? Just as she was beginning to feel sorry for herself the young greenrider came to her. Her mind reeled as she was told she too was being searched. She looked over to her grandparents. They were smiling. Her heart thudded in her young chest as she nodded her acceptance, for she did not trust her own voice. What she didn't notice was her youngest friend turning and running from the line of hopefuls. Guiloka had not been searched.
"You all now have a choice," began A'rie. "You can accompany us now, or we will come back for you nearer the time."
"They shall all go later in the day if that would be all right. It will give them time for packing and goodbyes. That way they will have time before the hatching to get to know people." Dinote said. "We can come back," offered Oria. "If that would be easier."
"That will be fine." Dinote smiled as he ushered the three young ones off to get ready. His son scowled as he followed his father. Dinote knew he was in for a long aurgument. Oh well, he thought, such is life.
