Description: Saibra and R'enh respond when Saihen is injured.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 9 of Turn 10
"I still don't like it," Saibra was saying to the painter as she stood
overbearingly over his shoulder, watching at the nearly finished
family painting of her, R'enh, and the twins.
Esiah tilted his head back and pinched the bridge of his nose as
tightly as he could between forefinger and thumb. "Milady -"
"It's the colors," the Weyrwoman said matter-of-factly. "I just don't
like these shades you've picked."
The senior journeyman artist spun in his stool and looked at Saibra
with wide, frustrated eyes.
Saibra, who never withered under a stare, shrugged. "You knew this
wouldn't be easy, Esiah."
"I didn't think it would be this hard," he grumped. He and Saibra had
known each other for Turns, all the way back to when she had been
Cyradis' Weyrwoman Second at Dolphin Cove. Esiah had been given
special permission to leave Dolphin Cove for an extended amount of
time to stay at Dragonsfall and complete some commissioned paintings.
"Start over, would you?"
"OVER?" Esiah's head fell back.
Saibra sashayed over and put her hands on his shoulders. "For me?"
Esiah peeked open one blue eye. "Fine."
"Thank you," she beamed and dropped a kiss to his cheek. "You're the
best, that's why I sent for you."
"Yeah, yeah," he said, waving her off so that he could turn and survey
the portrait again.
Slipping from the painter's workroom, Saibra nearly missed a step when
Chioneth butted into her thoughts sharply.
}:Your dragonet, Saihen. His foster mother is taking him to the healers.:{
Saibra veered immediately in the direction of the infirmary. **What for?**
}:Her small firelizard:{ Chioneth always prefaced mention of a
firelizard by its diminutive size, }:says he tumbled down the
stairs.:{
That sent Saibra's heart into a leap. **Tell Mnoranth.**
When he received the news from his mate he immediately notified his
rider who was in meetings while he stared out at the falling rain from
under the overhang of his couch. }:My mate says one of your hatchlings
has fallen and is being taken to the healers:{ he relayed.
R'enh started then stood. "I have to go," he apologized to his
Wingsecond and third. **Tell her I'm on my way**
"What happened?" Saibra's tone was frosty as she marched through the infirmary.
"We'd just had lunch in the Dining Cavern and when we were taking the
stairs he just missed one. I tried to catch him but he tumbled down
the last few steps." The fostermother wrung her hands.
Saihen, who hadn't been crying before, now started to wail, extending
his arms towards Saibra.
"Oh, my sweet," Saibra wrapped her arms around him. "Let me look at
you," she crooned, peeling him away just enough to smooth his hair
away from his face. "Your first stitches," she said, looking at the
neat, tiny row of three stitches above his eyebrow.
As R'enh trotted down the corridor Mnoranth made him chuckle. }:You
should give your weyrling wings so they don't fall down.:{ he said
very seriously.
So he was almost grinning as he grabbed the side of the door to swing
himself into the healers. "Hey," he said. "What happened?"
"Wingleader," the journeywoman healer inclined her head as the
bronzerider arrived. "I was just explaining to the Weyrwoman that
Saihen should be fine. He bumped his head on the stairs when he fell
which split open that place above the eyebrow. He'll probably have a
good bruise and bump there for a bit. Since he did hit his head, we'd
like to keep him just to observe him for risk of a concussion."
}:Not only do they need wings,:{ Chioneth said to Mnoranth, }:but
longer tails for better stability.:{
"How do you feel about that little man," he asked his son. He looked
at the boy with a slight frown, "Is that wailing necessary? I know
you're stronger than the stairs," he added with a sage nod to his
Weyrmate.
Saibra smothered a grin at R'enh's look as she stroked Saihen's back.
"Yeah," the boy sniffed in agreement, although tears still pooled in
his eyes, eyes that were mirrors of his father's.
"That's my boy," R'enh nodded approvingly with a wink and a smile. His
eyes shifted to the healer. "is it necessary to keep him or can my
mate and I keep an eye on him?"
"Oh, of course, I just wasn't sure what your schedules were,
Wingleader, Weyrwoman, but if you'll be home and can observe him then
absolutely."
"There's a storm out there and we have 'fall day after tomorrow.
Training's done for today so I can take a break." He looked at Saibra,
"How about you?" The children were very important to him. He hadn't
been there for most of his eldest son's life but he wanted to be there
and right now, he could.
"K'far can see to Sienna's wing drills, we had them planned for this
evening." Saibra sent a quick thought to Chioneth who then reached out
to Torth. The Weyrwoman looked back up at the healer. "It looks like
we'll be taking Saihen home with us."
"Of course. Just make sure he rests and takes it easy. If he vomits,
seems lethargic, or complains of a headache, bring him back."
"Of Course," R'enh nodded. "You okay with that?" He asked Saibra.
"Sure," Saibra nodded, already scooping Saihen up into her arms.
"Great," he smiled and then nodded to the healer as he gathered his
family toward the door. "Thank you so much," he said.
