Description: A'vel and R'nar get interrupted by A'vel's promised guests.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 10
Tsogath took matters into her own talons, reaching out to the bronze -
and his rider. }:Iorath, I wish you to fly me the next time I rise.:{
R’nar leaned into A’vel, taking comfort in the companionship.
When Tsogath’s soft feminine voice filled his mind he stiffened in
surprise, but also he felt… honored that she had felt comfortable
sharing that with him.
“Tsogath wants Iorath here at her next flight,” R’nar chuckled. “Would
that, huh… be okay with you? If he tried? You might not want him to so
there’s more opportunities for blues?”
A'vel's eyes widened. "She _said_ that? To Iorath??? That overgrown
flit." But his tone was as soft as it always was.
"But you never come to Dolphin Cove anymore."
“That’s true,” R’nar said. “But we could try to be here... if you wanted.”
"She wants it. And I wouldn't mind it. You're my best friend, R'nar.
You're careful. That matters." He lifted his head off R'nar's
shoulder, aiming to press an affectionate kiss to his cheek.
R’nar turned to look at A'vel at the same moment, catching the kiss on
the lips instead. The accidental gesture unlocked a memory for R’nar
of his first mating flight when Iorath had caught Tsogath and R’nar at
captured A’vel for a kiss on the ground.
A'vel instinctively kissed R'nar back. Warm, inviting lips...he nipped
gently at the lower one, driven by the swell of companionship he felt
for R'nar, the feeling Tsogath had for Iorath. Wait...but this wasn't
a flight.
They both pulled back nearly the same time. A'vel flushed a deep
crimson, praying it wasn't visible in the dim light, and was breathing
hard. "I - sorry."
“Whoops,” R’nar chuckled.
"Hey, you never have to apologize to me," R'nar's voice was soft,
although his cheeks felt awfully warm. Iorath was feeling very pleased
by the spike of contentment and happiness he could feel in his rider.
It was the first time the bronze remembered R'nar feeling this way for
quite some time.
"It was just...unexpected." And wouldn't R'nar be unwilling? Repulsed,
even, since it wasn't during a fight. "I'm sorry, I think I drank too
much. And Tsogath was -"
The sound of footsteps coming up the stairs to the outside ledge made
A'vel flinch. Was it just someone walking up to their own weyr?
R'nar swiveled around, automatically dropping A'vel's hand as he
turned to stand up from the ledge. "Were you expecting company?" he
asked, thinking maybe the greenrider's harper companions were coming
over to celebrate their success.
Brennault knew he was going to find seeing Zavek at the weyr to be
exhilarating, but he was not prepared for just how thrilling it would
be. It felt almost like they were getting away with something.
He burst through the door, dragging Zavek behind him with both hands.
He did not expect to see A'vel when he turned around.
"Oh. Sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to barge in on you, I thought
you'd be... somewhere else. You remember Dallec." He used the
pseudonym they had agreed on for when they visited their getaway, just
as he had when A'vel had picked him up.
A'vel jumped to his feet, fast and uncoordinated enough to the point
where pebbles from his motion fell from the weyrledge. "Oh! Uhm. Hi
Dallec, Brennault."
He turned to R'nar. "I'd said they could use my weyr to have some
private time. I totally forgot because of...how much we drank..."
Scrambling for something suave and mending to say to make it less
awkward, he said, "Please tell me you heard my duet."
'Dallec' wisely kept silent, taking a half step behind Brennault like a shield.
"It was absolutely beautiful," said Brennault. "Should we come back
another time?" He grinned and winked at R'fal, but despite his genial
demeanor, he could see Zavek was uncomfortable and likely wanted to
leave if the weyr was going to be occupied after all.
"It's okay, we were originally just here to put away my lyre. I still
have plans to leave you alone here till the noon candlemark of
tomorrow." A'vel reached down for R'nar's hand to pull him up. "We'll
go now, have fun, don't open the instrument wardrobe and that's the
only rule," he said, gesturing at it before fleeing from his own
weyrledge.
Zavek's hands immediately found their way back to Brennault's body.
"Do these weyrs have locks for the doors?"
"They do," said Brennault. "A'vel only left it unlocked for us. I'm
sorry." He used one hand to latch the lock on the door to the corridor
behind them.
"Marvel is still watching the ledge," he said. "But it would be weird
if anyone used it but A'vel... and guest."
Out on the ledge, R'nar found himself tugged along by A'vel. "Who were
they?" he asked, perplexed.
Marvel cheeped to the big green's two-legs as he and the other one
passed by. They were allowed; this was their place, so he did not have
to report them. He was, by and large, miffed at having to stand watch.
But he was always miffed if he could not be in the same place as his
two-legs.
A'vel recognized the firelizard, so he reached out and scratched at
Marvel and said to him, "Sorry about disturbing you."
Marvel nuzzled A'vel's hand in return.
"Ah...they're friends of mine, Brennault is a runner, I spend a lot of
time with him and sometimes give him rides. And when he said he had a
lover, and they needed privacy, I offered them the room. Which means
I've gotta go somewhere else. Here, let's go talk elsewhere..."
R'nar ignored the little jab in his chest when A'vel said he spent a
lot of time with Brennault. He couldn't be his only friend, after all.
He glanced back at the little flit guarding the weyrledge as they
left, smiling at how he looked like a miniature Iorath perched there.
"I've got a couch you can crash on," R'nar offered, his voice fading
away as they left 'Dallec' and Brennault to enjoy their Turns End.
