It was a long, long fall from the weyr she was assigned to to the weyrbowl.

A deadly fall.

If she took one step over the edge, what would happen?

Her family might care. Or they might not. After all, she had endangered a _baby dragon_, and Faranth knew that was all that mattered, regardless of what else might have been happening. She had hurt Dragonsfall’s _precious_ Kadira, shouldn’t she pay with her life? Certainly, that vile Bitran was all that K’don cared about.

And her mother.

Her father, probably.

Except for _maybe_ R’lor, all that they cared about, all that _anyone_ would care about, was that she had endangered Kadira’s dragon by not letting her rider chew her up and spit her out.

And wasn’t that fitting? After all, that was all that she was â€" some shiny little bauble to exist in the shadow of others. She was Naradis, the Weyrwoman’s daughter. A Weyrleader’s daughter. A bronzerider’s sister. A heinous, irredeemable monster who had put a dragonet in danger, someone whose feelings didn’t even matter to her own brother. If there was even any point in calling K’don her brother anymore.

Was a life like that worth living? A life where she was only ever defined by others, never herself? A life where she could only do wrong? Because if this had taught her one thing, it was that regardless of the circumstances, if she ever went against anyone above her miserable station, she would always be the one in the wrong. If she couldn’t even impress…

What was even the point of her?

There was none. All she was was a prop for others, a punching bag, a monster for the heroic K’don to run around telling others about.

She could get away from it though. She didn’t have to deal with their looks. She didn’t have to live with being remembered as the evil girl who’d hurt Kadira, circumstances be damned. Naradis could end it right here, right now. All it would take was one.

Little

Drop.

Naradis stared out over the ledge of the weyr and tried to think of something to live for.

She came up with nothing.

She didn’t know what she thought about that list R’lor wanted to write. She didn’t know why she thought that maybe it was a good idea to write a letter to R’nar.

Naradis stepped back from the ledge and didn’t know if she was making the right choice.
