I Somehow Find, You and I Collide (2/2)

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 12th April 2024

Characters: A'vel, R'nar
Description: R'nar and A'vel recover from Tsogath's flight and make alternate plans for their beach day.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 17 of Turn 11

His heart was still hammering, A'vel's hips were still in his hands,
and his hair had fallen into his eyes. Those were the first three
realizations and bits of clarity for R'nar as the intense climax of
the mating flight began to ebb. Slowly - reluctantly? - he released
the greenrider, dropping beside him onto the bed with muscles weak
with post-flight lassitude.

Tsogath had risen. A'vel lay pancaked on the bed, limbs still faintly
trembling in the afterglow. Someone was warm against him. **Who?** But
Tsogath was sound asleep and had nothing to share. She was curled
under the warmth of a larger dragon, that was all he knew.

The warm body shifted and then moved away. A'vel shivered from the
loss of contact, not ready to be alone yet, seeking comfort like
Tsogath had. He shifted to roll into whoever it was, whether it was
face to face or not he didn't care, he just needed to snuggle in and
be warm.

R'nar automatically collected the body next to him into his arms, eyes
drooping even as he yanked the blanket pinned underneath them and
tossed it over their bodies. Iorath's languid satisfaction bled
heavily through their bond, dulling his senses in the best possible
way as he finally succumbed to the exhaustion only a flight could
bring.

--

}:This was so nice:{ Iorath said in a contented mental sigh.

R'nar's brain roused from his nap sluggishly.

**It's been a long time since you've won a flight,** he thought,
staying in that light layer of sleep in between sedation and lucidity.

}:We were lucky to be here,:{ the bronze replied.

**Lucky?** Oh yeah, memories flitted back to him of running Eranar to
the creche in the Lower Caverns. At least his son was somewhere safe
and familiar, he mused.

A'vel slowly came back to consciousness feeling a blanket over him, a
broad body behind him, and a chin against his shoulder. He knew he
should wake up and thank them. Because he should leave. Because he had
somewhere to go. Where did he have to go???

He sat up, the blanket sliding off his chest to pool down on his lap,
and pulling off of his bedpartner, and looked over and -

"R'nar?!"

"It's me," the bronzerider said, slowly rising through the levels of
sleep towards full wakefulness. His body protested the thought of
having to move when he was so comfortable and relaxed. He hadn't felt
this relaxed in months - since before Ranni died.

“And here I was afraid that I would have missed seeing you because of her.”

"Who?" Then R'nar's muddled brain caught up. "Oh, Tsogath. Iorath was
_not_ going to miss her. I barely had the chance to get me and Eranar
to the ground before he took off to fly after her."

“I’m glad he didn’t take off with you still attached. A part of me
wonders what it would be like to be on her neck during it. Except the
risk of being crushed by the intensity of when the catch happened.”

"Yeah, he was practically feral today so I don't think it would have
been an enjoyable ride for me." R'nar thought back to those moments
right before he'd joined mentally with Iorath and a soft chuckle
began. "You should have seen..." the chuckle began to increase to a
full laugh, "what I looked like... I had Eranar strapped to my chest,"
now he was laughing so hard tears were in his eyes, "as I raced up the
beach and into the creche. His little hands were in the air as if he
were having the best ride of his life."

A'vel began to laugh along with him. "Someone had a very good time out of it."

R'nar wiped the tears on his cheeks, the laughter leaving him even
more relaxed and content. Laughter felt good. There had been far too
much sadness and trouble the last few months. "Yeah, well, I didn't
even have time to like... knock the sand off before I showed up at the
flight room. So... sorry if you're sandy." He didn't look very
apologetic, however.

"Don't worry about it," A'vel said. He reached up to brush a few tears
off from R'nar's face that the bronzerider had missed. Then his
fingers lingered for a moment on R'nar's skin.

And just like that, the atmosphere changed. The touch, while innocent,
felt charged. The laughter faded from R'nar's eyes, replaced by
something else as the rest of his body responded automatically to the
gentle press of A'vel's fingers. Those harper fingers.

A'vel didn't know what to say, so he tried to lighten it up again.
"You need to go take a bath before you go get Eranar? Although, if
we're going back to a picnic..."

R'nar blinked, unable to answer immediately as he assessed the
confusing whirl of emotions that had passed over him. "Uh, yeah, a
bath would be good." And then he did need to collect Eranar. He
gently began untangling himself from A'vel, only just realizing that
they had still been in a rather compromising position.

A'vel slid out of the bed and looked around for clothes. He found his
shirt and pants, but then there were two pairs of fairly similar
underthings. "Uh..." he said, tossing them on the bed.

Fortunately, R'nar was relatively sure what things belonged to him.
"Do you mind if we postpone our beach day? I'm afraid that Eranar
won't be up for it now. He's spent a couple of candlemarks in a
strange place, which means I'm sure he hasn't napped and will be a
terror."

"Not at all. As long as you remember to reschedule!" A'vel wagged a
finger at R'nar in a mock threat, which would have been maybe more
intimidating if he was less naked.

Once R'nar was dressed, he bowed to A'vel with a flourish, as he'd
done each time Iorath had caught Tsogath. "Thank you for a lovely
flight, Lord Greenrider."

"And to you, good sir," A'vel said, grinning as they stepped back into
the light.
