N'vanik

Zorenh was ready to go. To get away from all of the heat and humidity
and murderous holdfolk. To be near his father again, even if he had a
new family now. He had little to pack and mixed feelings about saying
goodbye to anyone. After his failure to Impress his bronze by sixteen
despite his constant bragging and certainty, most of his minions had
moved on. Sure, some of them were still friendly toward him. But they
no longer saw him as the pack leader. That honor had passed on to
another of their number who had been quietly confident - and much
younger than Zorenh - and had successfully Impressed bronze at the
last Hatching.

He stood and quietly waited for Mnoranth to appear in the sky to take
him away someplace where no one knew about this.

Mnoranth popped in a polite distance from the Weyrbowl and R'enh took
a moment to appreciate the beauty of his former home. They saluted the

Watch dragon and then Mnoranth reached out to Loseth. }:Mine is here
for his son and would like to see yours if he has time.:{

Meanwhile they circled the bowl and landed near the candidate
barracks. R'enh slid down Mnoranth's flank and smiled as he spotted
Zorenh. "Is that everything?"

"Yup! This is it. Travel light, right?" Zorenh stood as tall as he
could manage and tried to seem as though the bag were as easy to heft
as a feather. "My duty to you, Mnoranth."

Mnoranth's head came around and he puffed a breath and booped Zorenh in
the chest, as had always done from the time he was a little child and
R'enh laughed. "Careful there," he cautioned. "He can knock you down
if he has a mind to. He used to think it was quite funny to drop me in
the lake when we were Weyrlings." R'enh reached up and scratched the
bronzed eye ridge closest to him.

"He's not going to hurt me..." Zorenh would never believe Mnoranth
would harm him. Not on purpose, anyway. He danced to the other side of
his head to scratch the other eye ridge.

}:It's good to see you Mnoranth,:{ Loseth said. }:Mine says he will make time.:{

R'enh grinned and looked around for N'vanik. He didn't see him so
instead he gripped Zoren's bag, easily lifting and placing it into the
cargo net.

};And good to see you Loseth,:{ Mnoranth responded. }:We wait for yours!:{

It took a moment for N'vanik to make his way out to the Weyrbowl.
"R'enh!" He lifted a hand and shaded his eyes against the tropical sun
as he crossed the huge space between his weyr and the barracks. Even
if he had a lot of work, and more than enough to worry about, he
wasn't going to miss a visit from his good friend.

"N'vanik!" R'enh grinned and grabbed the Weyrleader's hand to pull
their shoulders together for a solid bro-hug. "Congratulations on your
new son," he said and put his arm around Zorenh. "I'm retrieving mine
to come with me to Dragonsfall."

Zorenh was rather chuffed at the overt display of kinship and
affection right in front of the weyrleader - the weyrleader! -
nevermind the fact that they were good friends. Someday, when he was a
bronzerider like his father, he might be a weyrleader's friend, too.
Or a weyrleader himself.

"Congratulations, sir!" he echoed.

"Thanks." N'vanik nodded at Zorenh to include him too. Then he lifted
an eyebrow. "Abandoning us for Dragonsfall, huh?"

"Oh, hardly, sir! Dolphin Cove is paradise. But family calls me home.
You understand, sir!" Zorenh grinned, but his heart was fit to beat
out of his chest. He could hardly tell him that his little minions did
not take him seriously anymore.

"Hmm. I suppose I can't blame you for following your da." N'vanik
turned to R'enh. "But maybe I can blame _you_ for avoiding me. I think
you owe me several drinks at this point."

R'enh grinned at the gentle chastising. "Several I'm certain," he
agreed. "Where and when?"

"The Vintner Hall tavern." The Weyrleader frowned thoughtfully. "I'll
have to check to be sure, but how about two sevendays from now?"

"You know," said Zorenh, "if you're not busy, we could all just go now..."

"Oh ho!" R'enh chuckled. "Feel like a cup do you?" He couldn't help
himself. His son was trying so hard to be grown up. He remembered
himself at the same age and just grinned. "Vintner Hall tavern has
the best brews. I'm game if you are," he said to N'vanik.

He really shouldn't. N'vanik had a lot of work to do, and conspirators
to track down. But Cyradis had recovered from her pregnancy and
Santhiath's Hatching had gone well. The sense of almost giddy relief
he felt at the idea of just walking away from everything, even for a
few candlemarks, was too strong to deny. He broke into a grin. "Yeah,
let's go."

Zorenh had to stop himself from doing a giddy little dance on the
spot, but he could not hide his ear-to-ear smile.

R'enh turned to his son, "up you go," he said. "We'll see you there in
a few." He clapped N'vanik on the shoulder and then scrambled up
Mnoranth's side to get in place himself. "You remember where it is
right?" R'enh raised a brow with a twinkle in his eyes as he buckled
in.

"Yes." N'vanik rolled his eyes. "Be there as soon as I can grab my
jacket." He only stayed a moment more to wave before turning back to
his weyr.
