"She's a little beauty," remarked Thanja as she came across the young journeyman harper. "What's her name?" she asked, gesturing to the golden flit hovering close by.

"Treasure" Dirwol looked up and smiled. He was sitting in the weyrs bowl.
He had been working on a piece for the kids. He put his work aside and looked at his little gold. She was in the process of scolding a group of the weyr's flits.

"I bet she is a treasure. You must have been lucky to find her."

"I think I was. I happened upon a cave during a perticularly nasty storm. I was suprised to find that a clutch was shareing my little cave. Sadly most of the clutch was smashed from tunnel snakes. When they started hatching I was in awe. I got worried when they started going out into the storm.
Since I was traveling I had a bit of food on me. I dumped it on the floor of the cave and started grabbing hatchlings and giving them food. When the storm was over they all left. I fell asleep after the exhausting night and woke with two of the flits. I never realy expected them to stay but they did."
He smiled.

"If you pardon the pun, you must have made quite an impression on them,"
said the Hallsecond, returning the smile. "How many of them stayed? If you don't mind me asking."

"Just two. Treasure and that little blue over there. His name is Flips."
The little blue seemed to know he was being talked about. He flew over and landed on Dirwol's knee. He looked up curiously.

"A real minature dragon," said the Hallsecond to herself. "He reminds me of my son's blue."

"Do you have any flits?" He asked.

"No, no I don't," the Hallsecond said, perhaps a little whistfully.
They seemed like attractive pets, but others said that they were nothing but nuisances. Maybe they were like children, they just needed to be taught.

"They can seem a handful at times, but then they can be helpful. I've been working with them on fetch and carry missions. Treasure can carry small scraps of paper. She can also find certian people in the weyr. They are also good at making you feel loved on lonely nights. I'm not sure when Treasure will clutch, but if you'd like I could save an egg for you."
He offered.

"Are you sure?" It was a rare offer.

"You've earned it. Plus, I don't want them all. Two is enough. I've already decided to give at least half the clutch to the weyrleaders to distribute as they wish. This weyr has gone through a lot and diserves something.
They've helped the harper hall alot too. I believe I will reserve one for you anyway." HE said with a smile.

"I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what happens."

"Of course." He smiled.

Thanja returned the smile. "It was nice to speak to you again Dirwol."

"It was good talking to you too. I hope to do it again sometime." HE smiled as he stood adn bowed to her.
