Description: X'eri _fearfully_ brings Zerias home to Zariah, prepared to beg for forgiveness after a little 'accident'.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 18 of Turn 11

X'eri

[[Stay behind me and let me do all the talking,]] X'eri signed to his
son as they stood on the ledge of Zariah's weyr.

Zerias was smirking a little, his eyes looking remarkably like his
father's in that moment. [[Do you think she'll be mad?]]

The bronzerider lifted his shoulders and eyebrows at his son in
unison. [[I don't know.]] And honestly, he didn't. Zariah could be all
fun and games and enjoy a good laugh... most of the time.... He hoped
right now was one of those times

[[Let's go.]]

X'eri entered the weyr first with Zerias glued so closely to his
backside that he wasn't visible from the front.

Zariah looked up from her book, a new selection from the "weyr
romance" collection that she'd borrowed, "Oh, X'eri!" The outburst was
automatic, but she got up to greet him, switching over to signing.
[[Do you want some tea?]] She didn't immediately spot her son.

[[No, thanks,]] he said, with probably too much of a 'please don't be
mad' smile on his face. [[Have a nice day?]] He felt Zerias laughing
into the back of his shirt, trying to remain quiet.

Her eyes narrowed suspiciously, [[Yes. Quiet. Reading. You?]] She
heard a muffled sound and started trying to peek around X'eri. Which
was complicated by needing to be in front of him to sign, [[What's
going on?]]

X'eri gave her a suspiciously toothy smile. [[Well, I was spending
time with Zerias today. He needed a hair trim, but...]] he stopped
signing to yank at his shirt collar. [[There was an accident and
well...]]

He pulled their son out for her to see.

"Hey Mom! Whaddaya think?" Zerias was all smiles as he ran his hands
over his bald head, which that morning had sported glorious hair down
to his shoulders

X'eri stepped behind Zerias like a shield.

Zariah actually gasped, putting a hand over her mouth as if that would
hide her horror. "What have you done to my beautiful son?!" She pulled
the boy into a hug, then repeated the question as well as she could
with signs, in between rubbing the now bald head in shock and horror.

"Mooommm," Zerias stressed the word. "Don't you think this makes me
look _tuff_?" The ten-turn-old flexed a puny bicep.

"Too tough," Zariah said mournfully, turning back to give X'eri a not
quite serious glare, [[I can't believe you cut his beautiful hair.]]

[[It wasn't on purpose. I accidentally nicked a spot and then...
well.. I try to fix it. And the more I tried to fix it, the less hair
there was, until he was just better to take it all off.]]

"My friends are going to think it's so awesome, Mom!" Zerias was
practically shouting with excitement.

[[At least we had fun bonding, right?]] X'eri offered with a sheepish grin.

Zariah sighed, giving her son's head one more rub before deciding,
[[It's not so bad.]] Zerias was better than her at signing, so she
knew he'd pick it up, too.

[[I'm glad you're bonding but maybe no playing with scissors next
time,]] she couldn't be upset, not really. She was glad the two were
spending time together, going back to some semblance of their happy
normal.

[[Make it up to you by taking you two out of the Weyr for dinner?]]
X'eri offered.

Zariah feigned thinking about it for a moment or two, then grinned,
[[I just need shoes,]] before retreating into her weyr to fetch them.
[[Where?]] She debated pulling out her Turns End dress a little early
and changing into that.

[[How about the tavern at Opal Cove?]] he suggested as he grabbed
Zerias' small jacket from the peg by the door.

[[Good choice.]] Turning to Zerias, she said, [[Ride with me or-]]

[[Dad,]] he didn't let her finish the question, which only made Zariah
smile wider as she headed for Relsath.
