Aydhara looped her arm around Cirina's and pulled her close. If she sensed her father's trepidation from somewhere behind her, she didn't let it show. "I want to fly around in the fighting wings, not hover around the hatching grounds. As much as Mom enjoys it, it's not for me. So which way to the dolphin show? Just follow the crowd?"
Cirina let herself be pulled close, using her free arm to point ahead, “If you swing by this way you can grab some snacks for while you're watching.”
The semi-important person Cirina had been sent to escort trailed behind the teens at a politely indulgent distance.
“Have you ever been here before? I know all the best spots. I can give you a tour.”
"I would _love_ a tour!" Aydhara exclaimed. "I haven't been here before. Is it true that the Weyr is just fifteen minutes walk away? It looks close. Mom interviewed for the Weyrwoman Second position here too, but she got Barrier Lake instead. Which isn't bad, but it doesn't have dolphins right outside!"
“Yeah, it’s right over there,” Cirina pointed, “there’s probably some candidates still running over to greet you, but I’m the quickest to the good jobs right now. Now, let’s see,” she frowned for a moment, thinking, and then a little brown firelizard appeared in front of her. “There we go. He can lead us to the snacks. And that one is mine- that’s Digger.”
N’kevyn perked up, coming closer, “You have your firelizard trained to find snacks?”
“He really likes snacks!” Cirina said defensively.
"We're trying to find our own firelizard eggs." Aydhara explained. "Dad wants to train his to sneak beer from the Lower Caverns. Can you find us snacks, Digger?"
Cirina frowned, holding her arm up so Digger could land easily and regarding him. “I don’t think he could manage an entire beer. You might need a bigger firelizard, sir.”
“Noted. Keep the biggest egg once I find them,” N’kevyn said solemnly.
At the question, Digger regarded Aydhara for a moment, then looked to Cirina. When she nodded, he took off, zooming over the crowd. “That way! He always finds snacks.”
Aydhara took off after Digger, giggling, with Cirina in tow. True to her word, Digger led them straight to a food cart that sold dock dumplings; little bits of fish in fried batter and drizzled with sauce.
“The ones with the green sauce are spicier,” Cirina warned, “that always gets the new people.”
She didn’t protest when N’kevyn stepped forward and requested what she thought was an obscene amount of dumplings until he handed both her and Aydhara some. “I think I see the stands over there. I assume I can just take a seat? Aydhara, would you like a tour of the rest of the hall? Maybe Cirina here could-”
“I’d love to!”
Aydhara took too many dumplings with green sauce. "Yes, a tour! Do you visit here often? How long have you been at Dolphin Cove?" With spicy snacks and a new friend, her father was quickly forgotten.
Forgotten, the bronzerider retreated to the stands with his snacks.
