O'rosin

O'rosin

Their own weyr.

Not a permanent weyr, apparently. Too big for the barracks, but not
quite ready for their own adult weyr. Some of the weyrlings were
already talking about what kind of weyr they'd like once they
graduated. A few talked about the northernmost side, high above the
ocean, with nothing between man and surf but dragonwings and stone
ledge. It sounded foolish, not being connected to the rest of the Weyr
like that. He expected R'fayne would be requesting one of them, since
the man liked splashing in the ocean so much.

}: You like the ocean. :{ Aeoluth supplied, not so helpfully but
simply. Stating a fact. }: We could watch the ships. :{

"And then I'd need you to take me up and down any time I needed it."
O'rosin said. It felt nice, _easy_, to speak to Aeoluth out loud. He
struggled to understand how 'talking' worked in his head -- Aeoluth
was always there and present, and understood how he felt easier than
O'rosin could 'form' words to explain -- and talking to him made it
feel less foreign and strange. The other weyrlings looked at him funny
when he carried on the one-sided conversation, though.

}: I can take you. :{ Aeoluth said. O'rosin felt the adamance in the
words, and the pleasure behind the thought of just them, together. He
met that feeling with his own reluctance, certain that Aeoluth would
rather play or fly than ferry him back and forth to a far-flung ledge.

"This space is more than enough." He said out loud.. His voice echoed
through the empty space, despite it being fully furnished. A bed, a
table with two chairs, a chest, a washbasin. He stood in the center of
the space, his small bag of things thrown over one shoulder. He raised
his other arm out and slowly spun around, his fingertips hitting
nothing but air. He felt silly doing it, but it was so surreal that he
could call this much space his home, even temporarily. It wasn't so
long ago that he slept in the same shared space, either in the boat
with his family or his gaggle of brothers and male cousins back home.

}: Like the barracks? :{ Aeoluth asked. O'rosin tried to picture the
space like R'lor told him; old, rough-hewn caves dug into a rock face.
Large beds with a few kids crammed to a bed. }: Not like the
barracks.:{ Aeoluth amended.

"Nope. The barracks was more space. The candidate barracks, too,
though you weren't there." O'rosin said. He tossed the bag of things
onto the bed and turned around again. The weyrledge was just a short
passageway away, which looked just as unnecessarily large as the rest
of the place. The brown was sprawled happily on a too-big couch,
wriggling like a runnerbeast rolling in a pasture. It looked just like
when he was first hatched, once they were cleared from the infirmary.
O'rosin could hardly imagine that he was going to get much bigger, but
knew he was only halfway grown.

The brown perked up when O'rosin entered and scrambled back to his
feet, hopping off the couch and lumbering over. His head connected
hard with O'rosin's chest, eliciting an 'oof' and O'rosin's arms
reflexively circling him. He held the brown there for a moment,
squeezing him back. Aeoluth wriggled a little, lifting O'rosin onto
his toes. It wouldn't be long before Aeoluth could lift him clean off
his feet, if he couldn't already.

}: But you like it here?:{ Aeoluth asked hopefully. }:The room is good?:{

"Yes." O'rosin said. He laid his cheek against the warm brown hide.
"The room is good."
