N'vanik smiled as he stepped up to Tirraze, the second known female bluerider on Pern. Maybe in all history. "Congratulations, bluerider."
"Hm? Oh. Oh! Weyrleader. Hello. I mean, thank you." Tirraze snapped her attention back to what was in front of her only to see that N'vanik had come to speak to her. Unless this was a dream after all. That did seem plausible, as weyrleaders did not typically speak to her.
"Tell us about him," Cyradis stepped up from behind N'vanik's shoulder. He always outpaced her with his long legs and she'd had to almost run to keep up with him.
"U-uhm..." Whenever she tried to focus directly on Riamorth and their interactions before he had fallen asleep, the separation came back. She was watching herself remember watching herself feed him, watching herself watching him asleep in his wallow.
"He... He's sweet. Kinda goofy. But not in a... funny way, not like he's, uh... telling jokes... He's... innocent? Naive? He makes me smile." He had not been the least bit concerned about Tirraze's strange detachment. She had fed him as he wanted, given him the love he wanted. He simply assumed it was the way she was.
Cyradis smiled. "He hears you even when he's asleep," she assured the young woman. "He sounds wonderful."
"It all seems too good to be real." Tirraze's voice shrank. Admitting that she was dreaming often made her wake up, and if this was a dream, she did not want to wake.
"Yeah, it does feel like that." N'vanik automatically reached for Loseth and felt the love across their bond. "Hopefully the reality doesn't hit too hard tomorrow."
"Yes," her own link with Panitath was a constant infusion of love and strength... and demands but that was part of the joy of their bond. "It will be wonderful," she smiled. "If you feel any pressure from anyone, you tell us, alright? Anyone!"
"Oh. Ohhh." Tirraze should have realized that was why the Weyr leadership was keen to speak to her. Riamorth was blue. And that was strange. And that had caused some problems in the recent past. "I will."
"You're going to get a lot of attention, so you'll have to deal with that somehow," N'vanik said. "Sorry if you're not the kind who likes being center stage. But I won't tolerate people being rude to you, and neither will Cyradis or the Weyrlingstaff."
"I'm not worried," said Tirraze. She would probably wake up any moment and find that it had all never happened, anyway. "Thank you, sir."
"Do you have family here today Tirraze," Cyradis asked.
"What? Yes. Uh. My mother is here somewhere. And, um, my brother, I think? Maybe his dad? I kinda..." She might have even spoken to them already, but she was not quite sure. She could have imagined it.
"I'm sure A'kades is thrilled too," N'vanik said. They weren't blood related but he knew A'kades had a fondness for his son V'rel's sister.
"Of course, he would be." Tirraze nodded. If she had, indeed, spoken to him, he would have certainly told her so. He could imagine him telling her. Perhaps he had... "He's always been like an uncle to me."
"He's a good man," Cyradis nodded. "I'm glad you're not alone but if you need anything you can call on us Tirraze. We want to make sure you and Riamorth are successful."
"Thank you, ma'am. I'll remember." It would have been... worse, somehow, if she did not feel this way. As it was, she could almost pretend that they were showing all this extra attention to someone else.
"Alright," she smiled. Then she took the Weyrleader's arm. "Think we can find Naradis?"
