O'rosin

O'rosin

Cirina considered whether this was one of those moments where it was better to ask, or let things go. Pushing her napkin of cookies towards O’rosin as a bribe, she asked, “What did you get in trouble for this time?”

O'rosin accepted the bribe and took a cookie. "What don't I get in trouble for? He and Berlinarth got into a fight over the same herdbeast. Or. Aeoluth thought they were playing, anyway. Maybe they were playing tug. They arrived to class covered in blood and the Beastcrafters filed a complaint."

“Oh, well boys will be boys. Was Berlinarth hurt?” Cirina didn't point out that that's why she would be glad to have a lady like little green.

"I don't think so. There wasn't any- what is it, ichor? On them. They have green blood, don't they?" O'rosin made a face. The fact hadn't stopped him from panicking until another classmate had reminded him and he'd checked every inch of the massive beast for injuries. "A reign of terror, the two of them. We have to work in the pens for the next few sevendays as extra duties."

Cirina gave a full body sigh, “Yes, it’s green. Don’t make me start quizzing you again. Oof, that’s some hard work,” she said more sympathetically, “and on top of your weyrling work. I think my arms would fall off.”

O'rosin winced. "I don't want to be quizzed again either, that would be the final straw that gets me."

“Oh, I think you’re tougher than you look. You want to know what happened to me today?” She did not give him a chance to say no. “I got pulled into Sh’del’s office for a special assignment. Apparently I’m the holder welcoming committee now. I guess we got a new holder candidate with ‘backwards ideas’ about Weyrlife,” she rolled her eyes.

"Did you tell him that your back already aches from carrying me, the last backward holder candidate?" O'rosin said flatly. "You need to start causing trouble or something. He'd never get the bad kids to play tour guide."

“Well, first there was a disparaging remark about my grades,” Cirina huffed. “I like Sh’del, I’ve known him forever, but he didn’t need to talk about my grades.” As if he weren’t exactly the person who should be talking about them.

"Aren't your grades good?" O'rosin asked, though maybe it was an assumption instead of a fact. "How are your grades going to get better if you're 'helping' everyone else?"

“My grades are fiiiine. I'm passing, and the dragons don't keep score. Just ask Aeoluth. I just don't see the need to overachieve.”

O'rosin shook his head, grinning, "Aeoluth doesn't keep score, clearly, but I'm also not sure that he can count. So what does Sh'del expect? You're going to get better grades by showing someone else around? It didn't work the first time."

“Maybe he’s just given up on my grades and I’m useful at keeping you all from embarrassing the Weyr. Hopefully I can use it to get out of some annoying chores like when I was helping feed Aeoluth. It’s worth it to not have to do dishes.” Sighing, she said, “But I should probably head back and do my Holder babysitting. It’s almost lights out.”

"Good luck with babysitting." O'rosin said as he stood to escort her out, "Thank you for the rug and things. I can rig up Aeoluth if you want, and he can take you right to the barracks."

“Nah, I like the walk, and I’m not in a hurry.” Cirina waved cheerily and headed out.
