Lyani

"You know what you look like, Reyela?" Lyani asked as she set a bottle
of wine down in front of her fellow greenrider. "You look like you
could use a drink," the brunette winked.

"Oh sweet little green dragons, did you read my mind?" Reyela pushed
aside her notes and reached greedily for the bottle. She'd been
studying herbs for dragon ailments until her eyes crossed, but
honestly, Lyani could have proposed studying tithe laws and she'd
still have dropped what she was doing. Lyani was _cool_ and Reyela
liked spending time with her. "How did you know?"

"I can just tell," Lyani said with that smoldering gaze of hers. "What
are you studying?" she asked, now producing two glasses from the
inside of her jacket.

Reyela glanced at her notes. "I'm apprenticing as a Dragonhealer. It's
interesting, but not _that_ interesting."

"Ah, dragonhealing. Too much ichor, and studying, and... _work_ for my
tastes." Lyani grinned as she poured the wine and then slid Reyela's
glass toward the greenrider.

Reyela laughed. "You're not wrong It _is_ a lot of ichor and
screaming. But I like it." She sipped at the wine and made a small,
happy sound. "Did you ever Craft?"

"You like ichor and _screaming_," Lyani's eyebrows lifted.
"Intriguing." The greenrider lifted her glass of wine to her lips.
"No, I never crafted. I was far too busy having fun. Fortunately,
Phyllameth found me at a young age so I wasn't forced to _truly_
consider needing to do anything else."

"You were lucky to Impress so quickly." While she couldn't imagine any
dragon _but_ Brandith, Reyela still remembered all those disappointing
Hatchings where she was left alone.

"Did it take you a while?" Lyani asked.

Reyela felt herself flush, but she nodded. "I was apprenticing as a
Beastcrafter for a long time. It was the closest I could get."

"But that's good experience, though." Lyani raised her glass a little.
"I went into Weyrlinghood with my mind completely occupied by other
things. I can't say I was the best Weyrling because of it."

"It's just hard when you come from a dragonriding family and everyone
is just... waiting for you to succeed, and then people start wondering
if you even will. I'm related to too many bronzeriders, I guess."
Reyela shrugged a shoulder. "I mean, you get it, right? Saibra's your
cousin."

Lyani snorted a little, but a fond smile was tugging at her lips.
"Yeah, she is. She's a little older than me, though. I was still
toddling around when she was standing as a Candidate. I always wanted
to be her so bad... until Phyllameth came along, and then I realized
how restrictive being a goldrider must be. There's much more freedom
for us on our greens."

"Faranth, no thanks." Reyela mimed a shudder. "I honestly don't know
how they get any girls onto the Sands when there's a gold egg on
there. I mean, I get the Holdbred ones. They don't know any better."

Lyani looked at the work spread out in front of Reyela. "You know, you
could ditch that and we could go dancing. I know a great tavern that
keeps the best local musicians."

Reyela looked down at her notes, the back up at Lyani. Herbs for
dragon poultices could wait. She lifted her wine glass. "Think they'll
mind if we show up with the remains of the bottle? This is good."

The other greenrider looked down and unbuttoned her shirt a little
more. "I don't think they'll mind if we bring the bottle," she winked
as she stood.

Reyela stood, picked up her notes with one hand and her wine with the
other. "Then I'll meet you at the Star Stones. I just need to put
these away and get straps on Brandith. See you soon!"
