Party Preparations

Writers: Aaron, Shawna
Date Posted: 23rd February 2025

Characters: Tirraze, Cirina
Description: Cirina recruits Tirraze for help throwing a Weyr-warming party for O’rosin
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 20 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: O’rosin

"Tirraze!" Cirina spotted her friend and rushed over with her lunch, plopping down across from her and taking a big bite out of her meatroll. Muffled by the food in her mouth, she said, "I need help from someone with a dragon. O'rosin has been in his weyr for a month now and he still just has what was in his weyr when he moved in. I wanted to throw him a belated weyr-warming policy. He doesn't even have his own klah mugs, he just borrows them from here and returns them at the end of the day. I figure if we throw a party and tell everyone to bring something, maybe it'll come out looking a bit more homey. Or at least less empty and sad."

Tirraze looked tremendously relieved and her smile showed as much. Ever since she had shown her friends her haircut, she had worried that she had said something unkind about O'rosin-- which was never her intention. But now if Cirina was asking for help to do something nice for him, well. That was another chance to make up for it.

Of all their circle of friends, she might have been among the best situated to help. She still had friends in the lower caverns, and even her mother would surely be inclined to help her with this-- since it was for a benevolent cause.

"I would love to help."

Oblivious to any awkwardness, Cirina enthusiastically launched into her plans, "Alright, so, I begged permission to borrow some of the chairs we keep for like hatchings and Turns End and stuff, so I'll need yours and Riamorth's help to get them up to O'rosin's weyr. And I agreed to wash like a thousand dishes in exchange for a couple of trays of meatrolls. Do you have any connections that can get us some drinks? Maybe some other snacks? All the lower caverns people love you, right?" Cirina considered herself quite charming, but Tirraze had connections.

"Well. They all know me. Some of them love me." Tirraze chuckled. "But yeah, I can get drinks and snacks." She might have to promise free rides for a while and help with putting everything together, but that was easy.

"Excellent. I don't think O'rosin is very good at asking for help. Or for things. But he's a part of the Weyr now and he should get to feel like he's at home, you know? You should see if Saedyna wants to come, if she promises to be nice," most of Cirina's irritation had dissipated with time. "Maybe she won't make that face at him anymore since they aren't in class together."

"I'll ask her," said Tirraze. "Is he going to be upset if we come? I don't want to make things any harder on him if he doesn't like me."

"Have you given him any reason not to like you? I don't think he'd care, and if no one comes it's not a party." Cirina pointed out, "Especially if you're the one getting the drinks."

"Everyone likes the one getting the drinks," Tirraze agreed. "I don't _think_ I've done anything to make him dislike me. But I haven't done anything to make him like me, either. I'll be there, anyway."

"Good. That way there will be at least a few of us there. Can you imagine if I went to all this effort and then no one showed up? That would be so sad." There was a moment where Cirina clearly re-ran what she just said through her head, because she added, "For O'rosin."

"Well, yeah, of course. Don't worry," said Tirraze. "I'll make sure to bring at least one more from the lower caverns."

"Ohhhh?" Cirina did nothing to hide her interest, "Someone specific or just someone in general?"

"Whoever will help me lug stuff up onto Riamorth." Tirraze laughed. "Is there anyone specific you want me to harangue?"

"No. I'm just dying for some good gossip. Give me something, anything, I beg of you." Cirina was laying on the dramatics, clearly.

"Eh, well. Not as many folks have been chatty with me lately. I think I scared them off with... you know, how weird things were wth me after I first Impressed." Tirraze shrugged.

"I did hear someone say they thought Ç'pier spends all his time outside the weyr as N'vanik's personal assassin, though. Seems like something he would be into."

Cirina made a face, "Ugh. I'd believe it. Was it awful being in classes with him? That was the one plus to not Impressing yet, I suppose. I didn't have to sit in classes with him. He gives me the creeps," She gave a dramatic shudder. "Poor Saedyna."

"He was... I dunno. He was mostly quiet. After a while, you could just forget he was there until you turned around and then _BOOM_. R'lor shoulda put a bell on that shitstain." Tirraze shuddered. "Poor Saedyna. Poor Blue. Er, B'lyse, that is."

"Ugh, yeah, I don't know why anyone thought him being with that class was good for anyone. Oh well, at least that's over with now and he's not in your wing, right?" Cirina shrugged, trying not to dwell on that. "And he won't be in my class at least."

"It's nice to not have to see his stupid face, yeah." Tirraze chuckled. "On the bright side, I get to fly with my brother's weyrmate."

"Oh, that's nice. You can get to know each other better. Unless you don't get along. Do you get along?" She couldn't remember if she knew anything about Tirraze's brother's weyrmate.

"Oh, I adore him." Tirraze beamed. "And I'm fairly sure he likes me." She laughed.

“Good.” Cirina thought she hid her irrational jealousy that Tirraze was both in the wings and able to connect with her extended family well. It wasn’t Tirraze’s fault she didn’t have a dragon and her older brother had moved away. “Now, about this party. I was thinking…” She put her head down to work on the intricacies of the plan.
