Characters: Saedyna, B'lyse, C'rand
Description: Saedyna asks C'rand and B'lyse a very awkward question.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 10 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: O'rosin, O'dyn, L'fael, V'tian, R'fayne
Saedyna looked over classmates. O'rosin, ugh. Definitely not. O'dyn
seemed nice but he was _so_ young and almost definitely had no
experience. L'fael and V'tian were greeriders, so they were out too.
R'fayne was kind of a jerk and the thought of him . . . no, no way.
Her gaze drifted over to C'rand and B'lyse, signing to each other with
dopey smiles on their faces. Well, they were very obviously into each
other so of course they'd say no. For the first time she wished they
hadn't gotten together, and then she felt guilty for having such a
selfish thought. But if she _had_ to pick someone, both of them were
nice, and they weren't ugly or anything. Maybe she could at least try?
She walked up to them, her face already heating. She'd learned a few
hand signs so she made the one for [hello] at the same time she said
it out loud.
B'lyse paused. He would never have expected Saedyna to approach them
and was instantly curious what she might have wanted.
[[Hello!]] he answered. It really was nice to be able to sign openly
and for his classmates to make some effort to learn how. "[[Is
everything all right?]]"
She nodded automatically. "Well, um. I wanted to ask you something."
She spoke a little slower than usual, looking between them. "I know
you're together and everything, but this is a weyr and things are
different here and and I thought maybe . . ." Her cheeks were bright
pink and she regretted opening her mouth. This was a terrible idea.
It took C'rand a long moment to realize that she must be wanting to
ask something personal. Why else would she seem so embarrassed?
It didn't actually occur to him, though, what it might be.
Relationship advice, maybe, since she had mentioned he and B'lyse
being together? Whatever the reason, he just couldn't turn away
someone in distress -- especially not a woman, and especially not a
woman he knew had already been through some rough stuff.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked, concerned. He moved over to make room, and
patted the seat. "C'mon, have a seat. We can talk quietly if it's
personal, nobody's close enough to hear, and I know neither of us will
tell if you say it's a secret."
B'lyse did not catch everything they were saying, but he got enough to
realize that Saedyna was having some trouble, and C'rand was promising
they would help. He nodded vehemently. He would help.
Saedyna hesitated. }:If they will help then you should ask,:{ Avarith
said. }:Berlinarth and Azureth's riders will be nice.:{
She took a deep breath and sat down. She didn't want to look at them
but tried to keep her mouth where B'lyse could see it. "I--I don't
want to come between you or anything. I'm only asking because, well .
. . my only experience . . ." She took another breath, this one more
shaky. "It wasn't good. The Weyrlingmaster suggested I try having a
better experience before Avarith rises. And I think he's right."
C'rand blinked once. And then blinked again. Slowly, her meaning -- or
what he thought was her meaning -- dawned on him.
"_Oh_! I, uh..." He blinked again. He realized belatedly that B'lyse
might not be catching everything, and this was going to be important,
so switched to signing alongside speaking. "[[You want us to...
help...um... give you a good experience? I just want to make sure I'm
not misunderstanding you.]]"
He didn't seem _mad_ so that was probably good? Saedyna blushed again,
her stomach tying in knots. "Either one of you. Or both? I don't know
if that would be weirder or make you more comfortable or . . ." She
shook her head. She hoped, at the very least, that they weren't going
to hate her for asking. "Anyway you both seem nice, and if it has to
be someone I thought, well . . . I trust you." She ducked her head,
her face feeling hotter than the tropical sun.
B'lyse's eyes widened a touch as he realized what Saedyna wanted. Or.
Thought he did, anyway. But he grinned a little, too. An offer like
this did not come along every day.
[[Is she asking what I think she's asking?]] he signed to C'rand.
[[Because if she is... I want to be with you alone first, but wow! we
should definitely help her, right?]]
[[I think so,]] C'rand signed back. [[And...]] He hesitated in his
signing. [[This is kind of weird, but... what if somebody else hurts
her? I know _we_ wouldn't.]]
[[Right, of course, we wouldn't!]]
He turned back to Saedyna, speaking and signing again. "[[Well, this
is, um... not something either of us expected to ever happen, I think.
But if you're really sure? We can help. I've been lucky enough to have
good experiences up 'til now, and I hate that you didn't. Guys like
that make my blood boil.]]" He clenched his fist. "[[I know we can do
better for you. Just, uh... we'd want to be with each other first? We
haven't yet with just the two of us.]]"
Saedyna nodded, her face still way too warm. "I don't want to take
anything away from you." She looked between them. "It's just for
Avarith. Just . . . just as friends." Maybe it wouldn't be terrible.
"It's all right." B'lyse smiled. "We won't make it weird, I promise."
"We're all dragonriders here, this kind of thing is pretty normal here
I guess, even if it's new to us," C'rand agreed. "But more
importantly, we're friends. And friends help each other out."
It already _was_ weird, but Saedyna trusted them not to make it any
weirder than asking two boys to have sex with her when she didn't
really want to have sex at all. "Thank you." Then she remembered she'd
learned that one and repeated, [Thank you.] "Let me know when you,
um . . . when you're ready."
B'lyse saluted playfully and signed, [[You're welcome!]] Or maybe it
was, [[Thank YOU!]] The signs were the same...
"We'll have Azureth or Berlinarth let Avarith know, and then we can
work out how we'll do it so that it's all right with you. Good?"
"Yeah." Saedyna nodded, feeling a strange mix of anxiety and relief.
"And hey," C'rand added gently, "Just remember you've got nothing to
be ashamed of."
"I'm not ashamed." Except maybe of not having the courage to just
_run_. "I'm scared and . . . and _angry_."
B'lyse's eyes widened, and his smile turned to concern. He could
definitely read 'scared' and 'angry' when she said them like that.
"Do you... wanna talk about it?"
She shook her head. "Not now."
C'rand nodded slowly. "Yeah, alright, no need to unless you want to.
But yeah, we'll let you know when, and we'll all get it worked out."
She was glad this was working out and they were being so kind, but she
hated being in this position at all. Still, Avarith was going to rise
and Saedyna really didn't want to think of her husband . . . _ex_
husband, every time that happened. [Thank you,] she said again.
