Saedyna was waiting when Candidate classes let out and all but pounced
on her friend. "Cirina? Can I talk to you?"
"Um, sure, what did you need?" Cirina couldn't decide if Saedyna's
intensity should be exciting or alarming.
"Maybe in my weyr? Is that okay?" Saedyna wanted to be somewhere
private where they wouldn't be overheard.
"Sure. Are you alright? You seem a little ..." Weird wasn't the right
word. Cirina frowned for a moment before coming up with, "Tense?"
"I'm okay, I'm just . . ." Saedyna frowned, trying to think of the
right word. "Confused. Avarith can take us up."
Cirina nodded, letting her friend lead her to the green for the ride
up. Once they'd reached Saedyna's weyr, she slid down the green's side
with a cheerful, "Thank you, Avarith. Alright, Saedyna. Spill. What's
going on?"
"Well, Avarith rose, and Riamorth caught her, and it was . . ."
Saedyna bit her lip. "It was good. It was really, _really_ good."
"Oh. Ooooooh," Cirina's eyes went wide in surprise. "Well, that's
good though, right? Have you talked to Tirraze since?"
"We talked some after. And we, um, we did it again." Saedyna put her
hands to her burning cheeks and reminded herself that Cirina was
weyrbred. Nothing seemed to phase them. "Cirina, I didn't know it
could _feel_ like that. Faranth, no wonder so many people like
flights."
Cirina did not look upset by the news, but her brow was furrowed as
she thought quickly. "Oh, that's wonderful. I know you were worried
about that. So.... do you think you enjoyed it because it was a flight
or was it Tirraze? Saedyna, I'll have you know I make an excellent
wingwoman."
"I--I don't know." Saedyna thought of how good it had felt to kiss
Tirraze. What the bluerider had looked like naked, how it had felt to
touch her. "Could I . . . like women?" she asked in almost a whisper.
"Why not? We smell better then men. You know my friend Aydhara prefers
women," Cirina shrugged. "Maybe you do, too. You look like you could
use a drink. Do you have anything?" Cirina started going through her
friend's cupboards shamelessly.
"I think there's half a wine skin," Saedyna said distractedly. "How do
you know if you like someone?"
"Well. You think about them when you're not with them. Fantasize about
touching their hair." Cirina found the wine skin and pulled it out
with a triumphant shake. Pouring a glass, she brought it over and
offered it to Saedyna. "I always find myself thinking way too hard
about every conversation with them."
"Oh. Oh no." Saedyna blushed again. "I think I like Tirraze." She took
a long drink of wine as her thoughts spun.
"Well what's not to like? She's pretty, she's smart, she's nice. I mean
I wouldn't want to, but there's no reason you shouldn't want to."
Cirina said. "Do you think she likes you back? She did give you a
nickname. She didn't give me a nickname."
**Saedie.** Thinking of Tirraze calling her that made Saedyna's
stomach flutter. "She . . . she enjoyed the flight. And she said we
could try again later to see if it feels as good as the flight. Does
that mean she likes me?" Suddenly that was the most important question
in the world.
"Uh, yeah, I think that's a pretty good sign she likes you. What did
you say when she said that?" Enthralled, Cirina leaned towards her,
topping off her wine glass.
"I asked if she wanted to, and she said she did, and then I kissed
her. And I . . ." Saedyna laughed in embarrassment. "I told her liked
her hair." She wanted to kiss Tirazze again, and touch her hair, and
the rest of her . . .
Cirina started giggling, "Well, I think that's your answer. You both
like each other. Awww, I'm so happy for you two. You should take her
on a nice date. Maybe a mountain picnic?"
"A date." Saedyna said with a smile somewhere between nervous and
happy. "I've never been on a date." Then her face fell. "What if she
doesn't like it? What if it's boring? What if I say the wrong thing?"
"Well if it's boring you can just go somewhere else. You have dragons!
And I doubt you'll say the wrong thing. You usually don't worry about
saying the wrong thing, do you?" Cirina pointed out. "I'll bet you
wouldn't have been worried about it before the flight."
"We were just friends then. This is . . ." Saedyna shook her head. "I
don't even know how to ask her."
"Just be direct. Tell her you're interested and suggest something you
think will be fun. I'm sure she'll say yes. Oh, maybe a gather? Surely
there's one somewhere soon," Cirina said, getting increasingly
excited.
"I could buy her things," Saedyna realized, the idea instantly
appealing. She gripped the other girl's hands. "Thank you Cirina!"
"Sure, everyone likes presents, but don't go too wild," Cirina warned,
"It should be about spending time with her. Oh but maybe some nice
hair clips. Her hair is so short now, it'll get in her eyes, surely."
"We'll go to a nice, big Gather and I'll get her whatever she wants."
Saedyna imagined how nice it would be, the two of them walking arm in
arm as they browsed the stalls.
Impulsively, Cirina leaned over and hugged her friend, "I'm so excited
for you both. Let me know if I can help in any way. I'm great at
planning." She wasn't that great at it, but what she lacked in
forethought she made up for in enthusiasm.
"You're a great friend." Not that Saedyna had much to compare to, but
she was sure that must be true. Now she just had to find enough
courage to actually ask Tirraze.
