Characters: K'mai, I'serin
Description: Sebeth is sad and asks Aluneth for a cuddle.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 17 of Turn 12
Notes: Follows "To Reach for Him"
Sebeth was sore and shaken, and his rider had to stay in the
infirmary. K'mai kept assuring the blue that he was fine, that the
healers wanted him to rest, that he would see Sebeth soon. He could
_feel_ K'mai again and that was reassuring, but even with his
lifemate's loving presence strong in his mind, Sebeth felt lonely.
}:Aluneth, I hurt.:{ He hadn't been scored like K'mai, but Trasiboth
had fallen on them and he ached. The dragonhealers said he was bruised
but would be fine in a few days.
Aluneth turned his steely gaze towards the blue, though his tone was
laced with compassion. }: Did the dragonhealers not see to you? :{
}:They said I will be fine, but K'mai cannot come to me,:{ the blue
said in a small, sad voice. }:I almost lost him. I was so afraid.:{
There had never been any doubt in Aluneth's mind that the two would
emerge from the situation with nothing more than a few new scars to
show for it but he remembered the fear in Sebeth's tone during the
Fall. Had it had been I'serin who had been injured, Aluneth was not
certain he would have been able to remain as calm. }: Our riders may
seem fragile but are more resilient than we know, :{ he said gently.
Only because it was Sebeth. Any other chromatic that would have
approached Aluneth for comfort would have been roundly dismissed. He
was a bronze dragon, not a babysitter. }: K'mai will be fine, Sebeth.
:{
}:Can I lay with you?:{ Sebeth looked up at him with yellow eyes.
Aluneth arched his neck, reflexively intending to reject the request,
but he paused. Internally sighed. It was just for one night and Sebeth
could use the comfort. }: Very well, :{ Aluneth allowed. He shifted
his bulk so that Sebeth could join him.
Sebeth rose, whimpering a little as the soreness increased. Flying was
even worse, but it was a short distance up to join Aluneth. }:Thank
you,:{ he said as he curled against the much larger bronze. }:You are
so brave and strong. I know I am safe with you.:{
Aluneth started to rearrange his wings so that Sebeth was not leaning
on one uncomfortably. He shifted it free, tried to tuck it along his
back unsuccessfully, then, with a resigned whirl to his eyes, realized
that it would be most comfortable if he just rested his entire wing
over the blue, sheltering him.
He hoped that Sebeth did not try to do this when Chioneth was near.
}: Rest, :{ the bronze said, hoping that sleep would quiet both dragon
and riders. He did not like the way I'serin's mind felt that night but
could not soothe it. }: Tomorrow, I'serin will speak with K'mai and we
will all feel better. :{
}:K'mai hurts, too, but he says he will be okay.:{ Although Sebeth was
still sore from the bruising, being pressed against Aluneth's warm
side and tucked under his wing made the blue feel better. Sebeth's
eyes took on a more greenish tone as they began to droop. }:Yours
always makes K'mai feel good. I am very happy they are mates.:{
Aluneth was quiet for a moment, considering. His rider's mind was a
whirlwind of emotions but he knew that at the core of I'serin, there
was a great amount of...care...held for K'mai. }: It is my hope that
one day, I'serin realizes that as well, :{ he said quietly.
