Characters: Zariah, O'dyn
Description: Zariah and O'dyn talk about life choices.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 7 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: Aleriand

This time, Zariah had decided to go to O'dyn. Partly because it was only fair to come to him when she had ulterior motives, but mostly because it was so frigid at Dragonsfall that she relished the excuse to go somewhere warmer. She’d had Relsath arrange a convenient time with Genireth a few days before, and almost exactly on time, Relsath appeared over Dolphin Cove.

}:Thank you for letting us come here. It’s all cold and white at home,:{ the green said as they gilded down towards O’dyn’s weyr. Zariah, having been bundled up for home, was already pulling off gloves and scarf and jacket before the green had even fully landed.

“Woof, it’s warm here.”

"Hi there! Hi Zariah! Welcome to Dolphin Cove!" O'dyn with all of the exbuerance of a puppy. "Do you want to see my bookshelves? I just installed another one but it isn't full just yet so I'm hoping to fill it before the Turn's End because there are a lot of books that I want and I'm just saving up the marks for but I have a few marks already so-"

}: O'dyn, please breathe, :{ Genireth calmly interjected.

O'dyn took a big breath. "Sorry," he exhaled. "I get really excited sometimes."

"Hello, O'dyn," Zariah said with an amused smile. "Sure, I'd love to see your bookshelves." It took her a minute to gingerly get out of her jacket. She'd ditched the sling this morning but her shoulder was still stiff and sore. "How's the weyr library project going?"

O'dyn bounded over to his bookshelves and began proudly pointing out his favorite books. "Slow but I'm getting there! Okay, this one is a book about _pirates_. Apparently they used to be a problem at one of the Seaholds. And this book is about a harper who gets kidnapped by Holdless but then decides to _stay_ with them because they're not bad people, just misunderstood, and he wrote down all of his adventures. And this book is about a feline who makes it on to a ship and sails all over Pern and I'm pretty sure it's fiction but it's really well done and they have felines on ships, right?"

Zariah wrinkled her nose, "Holdless seem to be popping up everywhere I turn. I don't know about ship cats, myself. I don't have much to do with boats." Pivoting to what she'd really came for, she asked, "And how about your Printer Hall deliveries? Any of your stops giving you any trouble?"

The littlest bluerider tilted his head up at her as he thought about her question. "Um...I still haven't been to Tanner Hall. And nowhere North really but we don't do book service up there so it doesn't matter I guess. Most people are surprised I'm bringing them a book the first time. They think it's a joke."

"No one's being rude to you, are they? We could threaten to withhold their book deliveries." Not that Zariah had that authority unless she just called in sick on delivery days. "Yeah, I do the Tanner Hall deliveries, it's in Dragonsfall's area. You're not missing much, it's not the most pleasant hall to visit. Very smelly."

"No! No, no nono, no one is being rude," O'dyn quickly said. "They're just um...surprised, I think. By me. And books. The two together. I'm short! And young. And I think they just envas-- no, _envision_, yes, that's the word, envision dragonriders as big and tall and um..." He tugged on his ear nervously. "Just, not me."

"Well, you're hardly the first young dragonrider... although I suppose most of them tend to stick around the Weyr. It's good of you to be working to make yourself useful before you're old enough to join the wings. And the Printer Hall does good work... you know, I've been trying to convince my daughter to take up an apprenticeship under master Aleriand," Zariah said, perhaps a little too casually.

"Really?!" O'dyn practically squealed. He loved the idea of more people printing books!

"Yes. She wants to work with the big printing machines. It seems safer than dragon riding, too." Zariah shrugged.

O'dyn's face went crestfallen. "But, a _dragon_! You can't pass that up! I know it's dangerous but I wouldn't trade Gen for--"

}: Genireth. :{

"--the world!"

"Of course you wouldn't," Zariah agreed, "but plenty of people are happy without ever having a dragon. I think she'd be happy either way."

The littlest bluerider thought about this for a long moment. Would he have been happy without Genireth? Yes, yes, he would have, because he would have been doing something that he loved and would not have known about Genireth so ignorance was bliss in this scenario but now that he had met Genireth, he couldn't see himself being happy _without_ Genireth so he could see how there wasn't an 'either way' option for him now but that was okay because he had Genireth.

Delighted that he had come to this big conclusion on his own, O'dyn shot Zariah a big smile. "I get it!"

Zariah smiled, though she was rapidly realizing O’dyn probably wouldn’t be the best person to encourage Raleri on her new career. “Anyway, I wanted to talk about rearranging some of our territories. I want to trade some holds with you to make life a little easier for us both…” She redirected the conversation to business.
