Teigan

Teigan

Teigan felt like a fish out of water as he stood at the entrance to the Printer Hall. His escort, a young bluerider from Barrier Lake, had already struck off to spend his time... Well, however young dragonriders spent their time.

**What I do for that woman,** Teigan thought as he stared at the doors leading in.

Wallpaper, new wallpaper, had been the missing piece of décor for the Weyrwoman's weyr to make it feel more like their own place, apparently. Inheriting the room where the former Weyrwoman was stabbed and had nearly bled to death wasn't easy on his weyrmate. It didn't bother Teigan as much, maybe because he faced death regularly in the infirmary. But if it would make Thiseta feel better, then new wallpaper it would be.

It was normally something he and Thiseta would have done together, or she would have taken care of herself, but with Imbeth egg heavy, the task had fallen to him.

**Ugh. Just get it over with, man,** he told himself, forcing one foot in front of the other.

"Can I help you?" The impossibly cheerful female apprentice asked him when he entered.

"Yes, um, I'm here to see Journeyman Wyndall about... about wallpaper." His voice was a bit gruff.

"Oh, yes! Right this way!" The cheerful apprentice said, as if this were a common occurrence.

The apprentice led him down a hall to a smallish office with a hide-strewn desk and walls covered in a delicately flocked blue and gold wallpaper that gave the impression of flowers floating in a pond. He wasn't left to wait long before a tall man with brown hair and a Journeyman's knots entered. "Master Healer, hello. I'm Journeyman Wyndall," he said, extending a hand splashed with vivid green and a pale ocher.

"Teigan," he said, grasping the journeyman's hand in a firm shake. "Thank you for taking time out to see me." He reached into his back pocket, which contained a list of the sort of things Thiseta was looking for in a wallpaper.

"Of course. Please, come sit. Do you want some tea or klah? Or water? I could ring for some." Wyndall sat behind the desk and started shuffling hides to one side to create space.

"No, thank you," Teigan said as he took a seat. "I have here a list of adjectives the Weyrwoman would like to see in her wallpaper." He handed the paper to Wyndall.

"Oh." Wyndall's eyes briefly widened as he read the list. 'Verdant,' 'sprouting' and 'calming' were words he could work with, but he had no idea what to do with 'sprays' or 'efflorescence'. Or even what 'efflorescence' meant. Which was a problem, as a Weyrwoman as a client had the potential to make the Printer Hall a lot of marks. Weyrs were rich and Weyrwomen were watched- and emulated. If Weyrwoman Thiseta decided she liked wallpaper, it was entirely possible that half the Weyr would follow suit.

He tried to remember what he knew about Weyrwoman Thiseta and was distressed to find that he couldn't think of much, except that she'd been one of the goldriders to come to Barrier Lake Weyr after Weyrwoman Kapera had been attacked. He didn't even know why a Master Healer had come to pick wallpaper for her. **They must have some sort of relationship,** he thought, **otherwise why waste a man of his talents on an errand like this?**

He set the paper aside and stood, crossing the room to pull a thickly bound book from a shelf before sitting back down. "If she wants something verdant, I am assuming shades of green would be her preference? Perhaps something with leaves or flowers? This book here holds samples from the printing blocks we have on hand that have more natural motifs. I can print any of these in whatever colours you like. We could go through it together and see if there's a pattern you think she might like? If not, I am happy to create something new especially for her."

"Let me see the samples," Teigan said. "I'm certain I can pick something out that will please our Weyrwoman," he winked. They'd been weyrmated for four Turns - how hard could it be?

Thumbing through the book, Teigan concentrated on the task at hand until he stumbled upon one that was _perfect_. Bright, sun-shining-through-a-leaf green plants with hexagon patterns holding the full spectrum of green colors in their shadows greeted him like a jungle. "This is the one," he said to Wyndall. "The more plants the better, and all these shades of green? She'll love it."

**Interesting.** It was a fine pattern, but very busy. The colours had been an apprentice's lesson in shades of green. "What room will she want to have this up in?"

"The main sitting area," Teigan said confidently. "She said she wanted it to feel like she was sitting in a garden. She loves plants."

Wyndall smiled. Sitting areas were usually large. "I can certainly make that happen. I'll need to visit your weyr to take some measurements, and then depending on the size of the space the Hold will be able to quote you on a price. I can then return in a sevenday or two with a team of apprentices to install the wallpaper for you. It shouldn't take more than a day to finish. I am hopeful that Barrier Lake can arrange transportation for myself and my team?"

"I'm sure Thiseta will be able to work out transportation for you," Teigan said. After all, being the Weyrwoman's weyrmate had to have those kind of perks, right? Transport whenever necessary.

"Have her send me a date and time, and I can be available," Wyndall said. "I look forward to doing business with the Weyr."
