Physical Description of Persona:
Wyndall is a tall man with narrow shoulders and large, ink-stained hands. He has brown, wavy hair that he brushes back from his face that is beginning to grey at the temples and get a bit thin around his forehead. He has thoughtful, soft brown eyes beneath bushy eyebrows, and deepening wrinkles around his eyes. His beard has an unfortunate tendency to come in three or four shades lighter and much redder than his hair so he tends to be clean shaven.
His clothes are usually of his own design and while his day-to-day wear is often in ordinary shades of brown and blue, he gravitates toward intricate patterns and cuts for his personal and Gather-day clothing. When working he wears a dye-stained leather apron.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Although his first love is his Craft, Wyndall is also keenly interested in philosophy, politics and the people around him. He is thoughtful, stubborn and passionate enough to chase an idea across Pern if he has to. There is little he enjoys more than sitting around with other Crafters discussing art, life and society. He has strong views about the importance of hand-made goods, experimentation, and the interconnectedness of art and design.
History of Persona:
Wyndall is the first child of a Journeyman Weaver and an ovine herder: Journeyman Wynglar and Dallingh. Wynglar met Dallingh when he was placed at her cothold as a new apprentice, and the pair immediately fell in love. Wyndall was born at the Weaver Hall but spent his summers with his mother’s family learning to herd, tend and shear ovines and caprines, and winters at the Hall learning to sort and card wool, and to help the weavers as they practiced their Craft. As a child he was curious, bright and talkative, and was never lacking for friends. He got on as well as could be expected with his brothers and cousins, and was always up to climb a tree or jump off a bridge into the river below.
Wyndall formally apprenticed to the Weaver Hall at the age of twelve and quickly showed an aptitude for patterns and embroidery. Half way through his Senior Apprenticeship Wyndall happened to travel home in the company of a Harper. The Harper commented on Wyndall’s sketchbook for embroidery patterns and they spent the next sevenday discussing illustration, design and textiles. This encounter inspired him to petition both the Weaver Hall and the Printer Hall for a change in apprenticeship. Neither Hall was willing at first, but Wyndall was persistent and eloquent enough that the Printer Hall allowed him to attend for a Turn as an experiment in Craft collaboration. At the end of the Turn, Wyndall petitioned to stay and change Crafts to learn to be a Printer, and was accepted. This delay meant that he didn’t earn his Journeyman’s knots until he was twenty-seven.
Wyndall then petitioned for a position at a Weyr, and was sent to Vista Point. Here, away from the restrictive Crafthall rules and secrets, he enjoyed gathering with other Crafters to learn about other Crafts and apply that knowledge to his own work. It was at this time that he found his calling: block printed wallpaper and dye-patterned textiles, which combined techniques from both Crafts he studied.
Now that the Printer Hall has reopened, Wyndall is eager to relocate to somewhere with larger, better equipment and more storage space so that he can reduce his time on conventional text printing and focus on his Senior Journeyman’s project.
