Description: Ilthralos and Vianne talk after she came home late
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 25 of Turn 12
Notes: Follows "Growing Pains"

Ilthralos was up early, even though it was his restday. It was hard to get his body to rest when the opportunity came, and it was so used to the routine that he was wide awake before the sun rose. He dressed and left the girls sleeping, ducking into the dining hall to pick up breakfast and klah for the three of them, as well as a little bucket of leftover meat for Jeepers. The brown nosed at the bucket as he walked back home with the rest, though obediently sat on Ilthralos' shoulder the entire way back.

He opened the door quietly and ssh'd the sudden excited chitter when he set the bucket down near the door. Jeepers dove for it like he'd never once been humanely fed. He set the hot food down on the table and poured himself a cup of klah. He flipped his book open, trying to figure out what page he was on.

Vianne would not have woken, except she needed the toilet so fiercely, she could not manage to go back to sleep. She did _not_ have a hangover. Just the tiniest headache. That was all. And maybe her eyes were a little red. Maybe.

Was that klah she smelled?

She creeped out into their common area and smiled at Ilthralos. Gave him a little wave, and sat down next to him. He was reading, so she decided she would not interrupt him. She poured her own cup and sipped it .

It took Ilthralos a moment to emerge from the book, though he absently reached out a hand to squeeze Vianne's gently. Eventually he did look up from his book and slowly dragged the second plate of breakfast towards her and lifted the cover.

"How are you feeling? I went for the greasy hangover food." He asked.

Vianne’s eyes went wide. She was too thrilled at the sight of the meal to grouse about being accused of having a hangover (she didn’t).

“I’m… I'm good. Probably because you insisted I drink more water. I…”

She did not deserve this man. She had to do better. She was going to do better.

“Thank you, my love. For taking care of me.”

"Hey, that's what I'm here for." Ilthralos said. "And I really don't mind if you're out late with friends. You didn't get to do that back home, and Impressing means you won't have it for a while. Just…tell me. Shells, I could have come out too. I grew up with a lot of these people. I could've left 'Anne with my foster mom."

Vianne sat quietly again. Stared at the food for a moment. She had already agreed that it would have been better had she invited Ilthralos to come. Or… had she said that aloud? It was clearly still on her husband’s mind, and if she _had_ said it aloud, then he still needed reassurance.

“We’ll go out together soon,” she said, at last. “As soon as you'd like to. We’ll dance and… Anything you like.”

Ilthralos studied her for a moment, then decided to let it go. He gave her hand another squeeze before turning back to his plate.

“Then it’s a date,” he said simply. He reached for his book again, content just to sit beside her while the morning settled in around them.

Vianne smiled. A date sounded lovely. Amazing, even. And she could think of no one else she would rather take her out.
