K'don

K'don

Notes:

~*~

It had taken all of his will, and some stern words and looks from the weyrling staff, to get K'daen to leave the side of his sleeping brown. The moment that had taken a lifetime to arrive, to herald the beginning of a new lifetime, was still so new that the dragonhealer thought he might blink and find it all a dream.

It was only the rumbling of his own stomach, and the presence he could still feel in his mind even with Zarenth sleep, that forced K'daen into his Gather best, and out amongst the festivities.

When K'don noticed him, he could hardly pass up the opportunity to congratulate him before all of the more important people got to him.

"Kaedin! Kaedin!" He waved and ran over. "Er. K'din?" he corrected tentatively as he bounced on his heels. "I'm so happy for you; I saw you find your brown from the Standsâ€" what's his name?"

K'daen smiled as K'don approached. It was somewhat poignant that the brownrider was the first to greet him, after all he had a bit to do with his choice of rider name.

"K'daen," he corrected his craftmate with a bit of a laugh "no need to confuse the Weyr with a K'din and K'don. And his beautiful name is Zarenth."

"Oh, K'daen. I love it. And Zarenth! It's perfect." K'don was all smiles. Hatchings were always the best celebrations the Weyr ever had. "Do you have any plans for the feast, someone you're sitting with? I know the other dragonhealers will want to toss you in the air or something."

"Honestly.. I never even thought I'd get to this place... not as someone newly Impressed" he replied. Other than the secret party K'daen had mostly avoided interacting with his fellow Candidates, and over the Turns he had slowly began to isolate from his craftmates too. "So I guess I really don't have any plans..."

"Come sit with us!" K'don insisted. "Please?" This time, K'daen had no reason left to feel like he did not belong with them.

}:Go:{ a sleepy but firm voice interjected before he could even begin to formulate a reason why he couldn't or shouldn't.

"It seems Zarenth has made the decision for me" K"daen said with a chuckle as he indicated for K'don to lead on.

"Looks like he's already made two great decisions today!" K'don laughed along with him. "Come on, everyone will be so happy to party with you! Come come come!" He took K'daen's hand and pulled him toward the dragonhealers' table.

K'daen allowed himself to be led as multiple feelings swept through him; acceptance, gratitude, joy, and others he had no name for. He quickly wiped the tears forming in his eyes, even though they were birthed from a place of overflowing love. Though the tears quickly reformed as he saw the real joy on the faces of his craftmates as the two brownriders got closer to their table.
