Talryne watched the kiss with wide eyes, her heart in her throat. She was thrilled. She was relieved. She was worried for him. Pushing through the stunned crowd, she made her way to N’vanik and Z’kim as they left the dance floor. “Well, that was quite a show.”

N’vanik grinned at her. “You like it?”

“I loved it.” She reached up and pulled him into a kiss, then she turned and kissed Z’kim on the cheek, trying to make it clear to the wildly gossiping crowd that she was fine with their relationship.

She’d been inundated with questions last time, and she was sure it was going to be much worse now. “So we can finally talk about it?”

N’vanik chuckled. “Yeah. Should’ve done this a while ago.”

“You did it when you were ready to.” Z’kim squeezed his arm.

N’vanik’s heart swelled and he smiled at his friend. “You’ve been so patient with me. You both have.” He could _feel_ the people around them, pressing close, dying to talk to him, but they were just polite enough not to interrupt. That wasn’t going to last long.

“Don’t worry about it,” Z’kim said.

“I thought you were going to do this last time.” Talryne had held her breath during that long moment N’vanik had stared at Z’kim’s lips.

A little heat crept into N’vanik’s face. “Almost did.”

“I hope you’re ready for all the holders who think you should be jealous,” Z’kim told Talryne.

“Jealous that I get to have two hot men in my bed?”

The greenrider laughed. “Please, _please_ say that to their faces. Better yet, wait until I’m there to watch. I want to see their little hidebound heads explode.” Tonight was going to be so, _so_ good. Then tomorrow when he got home he’d get to brag to an entire other Weyr about how he was bedding a hot Weyrleader.

N’vanik cupped Talryne’s cheek, thinking about what they were going to do tonight. “Brag all you want. Tell them how hot it is.” He kissed her, slow and deep.
It left Talryne’s knees feeling a little weak.

“So she can give details but I can’t?” Z’kim said.

“Tal’s got more sense than you.” N’vanik turned to him with a teasing, fond smile.

“I’m not sure I’d give them _details_ anyway.” Talryne became sharply aware that their sex life was about to become very public. She’d gotten somewhat used to being a semi-public figure " the Weyrleader’s dragonless weyrmate " but much of the time she wasn’t fond of all the attention. The past several months, with Kapera’s loss reopening that wound inside her, helping Kapera adjust to a life without her dragon, and the attack on R’ayl in the Dining Cavern, it had all been a lot. But Talryne had grown stronger, better able to cope with the darkness that would never leave her.

The shift in N’vanik’s relationship with Z’kim had made her a little nervous at first " that old fear that he’d find someone better, someone _whole_" even though she and N’vanik had been together more than eight Turns while some of his other relationships had come and gone. They’d had a few difficult conversations, and navigating bed-sharing had been more than a little awkward that first night, but it had bloomed into something none of them had expected.

“Better to leave something to their imaginations, hmm?” she said. “I might give a few details to Kapera, though.” She wiggled her eyebrows. “Shards, I need to talk to her. And the weavers!” Besides, if she was talking to them she might be able to avoid the holders. She gave N’vanik a quick kiss. “Save me a dance later?”

“Of course.” They’d danced already, but he couldn’t get enough of showing her off, especially in that dress.
“You, too.” She kissed Z’kim’s cheek.

“Absolutely, darling.”

Talryne lingered a moment more, watching them with a smile. The two men were almost glowing. But some people in the crowd were giving them dark looks, and a protective urge rose in her.

Something must have shown on her face because N’vanik said, “Go on, I’ll be fine. _We’ll_ be fine.” He took Z’kim’s hand again.

They were certainly both capable, and as much as she wanted to defend her weyrmate, she’d let him take the lead on this. If he needed her help, she trusted that he’d ask for it. That’s what Turns together had built " trust, and knowing when to step in and when to step back. She nodded. “Later.”

When she turned away she was smiling again. She had friends she’d been _dying_ to talk to.
