Description: A conversation between friends is had.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 17 of Turn 12
Tavhei liked the early mornings, the quiet before the Weyr filled with its usual bustle. He'd gone to get his usual mug of kaf, and then he'd taken it, (and his latest sketch) off to one of his usual spots near the Dining Hall, up a lesser used trail that gave him a good view of the Weyr's mountain ridge with the sun rising over it.
It felt like it was going to be hot later, but the air right now was _perfect_. And he wanted to finish this sketch while the inspiration was still strong.
By the time he was finished, the sun was fully up, and he carefully rolled it up before he went in search of Talryne.
She was in the weavers' workroom, restocking threads that had come in with the tithe. As she turned to reach into the box, she saw Tavhei coming in. "Need something?" she asked. Then a thought occured to her. "Is your mom okay?"
"She's all right." Tavhei hastened to assure. "I'm going back to her shortly, and taking her lunch. I finished the sketch I was telling you about, the one over the Lake. I wanted you to have it."
He held the sketch out, even as he moved closer. "I have a little bit of time, if you need help in here."
"This is beautiful," she said as she admired the sketch of the mountains behind the Weyr. "Actually, there is something you can help me with, if you're willing."
"It's yours. My room and Mother's are getting too full anyways." Tavhei told her, setting it down in her reach. "Of course. What do you need?" He wanted to know.
"It involves a dragon other than Loseth," she said cautiously. "I'd like you to draw a sketch for me."
Tavhei opened his mouth. Then hesitated. "I... Do I know their rider?" He asked, carefully. "I'm not... I'm not saying _no_. This is a Weyr. There's... dragons everywhere." He added. "I'd be a poor excuse of an artist if I ignored the category entirely."
"Do you know Tr'vel, the Lightning Wingleader? I'm making a tapestry for him, well, for his new weyrmate to give to Tr'vel as a gift," she said. "It's going to be of Eboroth and I'd love to have a reference sketch or two to work from."
"You know I don't... particularly _enjoy_ drawing dragons, auntie." Tavhei said, after a long moment. "But... if it's for you, and... for something like _that_... Weyrmating is special."
He took a slow breath, then exhaled. "... I'll do it." Tavhei said quietly.
A pause, and then he added, "Does Tr'vel know someone is going to draw-- Eboroth, was it?"
Talryne reconsidered asking him. Maybe it was too much. Tavhei only stayed at the Weyr because his mother refused to leave, and with few exceptions, he avoided dragons as much as he could. She laid a hand on his arm and said gently, "You don't have to. But . . ." She smiled slightly. "If you do, can you be sneaky about it? Tr'vel doesn't have any idea about the gift, and I want to keep it a secret."
"... No. I can do it." Tavhei responded, after a moment. "I want to help." He added, quiet but _certain_. "But... you or someone is going to have to point out Eboroth." He continued, a little bit dryly. "I don't know dragons by sight. Except Loseth, and the golds."
She nodded. "I can do that. I'd like a view of him from the right, partly turned so you can see some of his missing eye. Gil had this lovely idea of showing his injury but focusing on his strength. I have a good idea of what it should look like, but it's a lot harder to work without a refrence and I want this to be as good as possible."
Tavhei winced, but only internally. Poor Eboroth...
He took another slow breath. "That sounds perfect." He offered, and meant it. "I'll... do my best to get him just right."
"Your drawings and paintings of Loseth are beautiful. I'm sure you'll do a great job," she said. "I know this isn't easy for you, so I really do appreciate it."
"Thank you. He's... always inspiring to sketch." Tavhei responded, sincerely, and offered Talryne a nod and quiet smile. "Just let me know when you need me. I'll be ready."
A pause.
"... Tell Loseth and N'vanik I said hi?"
"I will." Her voice had a hint of warm laughter.
Tavhei's smile strengthened. "I... can let you get back to what you were doing?" He offered. "Or... would you like some tea?"
A break would be nice, and he she liked his company. "Tea sounds good."
