Ç'pier

Ç'pier

Between threadfall and his extra work to pay reparations to Saedyna, Ç’pier’s work had kept him from speaking to V’tian any sooner. But the moment he had a moment to spare, he asked Yuliuth to speak to Indith on his behalf.

}:It is a beautiful, warm, sunny day, Beautiful, Warm, Sunny Indith,:{ said the brown. }:Would your dear rider be so kind as to give mine a moment of his time, so that they may speak to one another about matters of personal import?:{

Indith had been half dozing on her ledge, sunning in said warmth of the lovely day.

At being addressed, however, she lashed her tail uncertainly, and yawned fully awake. }:Mine is very cross with Yours.:{ she told Yuliuth, almost apologetic. She liked the brown, but her rider had been hurt by his.

A long pause, passing the message on to her rider and conferring, before she added, }:Mine says that he will meet your rider in the Dining Hall or by the Lake in half a candlemark. He does not want Yours to come here.:{

}:It seems he may already know some of what Ç’pier means to tell him,:{ said Yuliuth. }: He regrets upsetting your dear rider. Nevertheless, he still wishes to tell him in his own words. We will meet you here, by the lake, whenever you are ready.:{ He showed the green an image of the place they would be waiting.

}:We will be there.:{ Indith responded.

At exactly the time stated and no sooner, Indith landed at the indicated spot.

V'tian dismounted, and rested a hand on one green leg. **Don't leave.**

}:_Never_.:{ Indith crooned softly.

V'tian drew in a slow breath, and then faced C'pier. “What do you want?”

“I found this for you…” Ç’pier held out a wildflower. It being the depths of summer, there were few of them still blooming, but Yuli could take him anywhere in the world, and he had made a point to find the most beautiful one he could. Because he knew V’tian wanted a trinket.

“From what Yuli says, you've already heard what I wanted to tell you… or part of it, anyway. You’re not the only person who's special to me. I should have told you sooner, but for whatever it's worth, I'm still figuring out who I am now. And who I want to be.

“I didn't fully realize exactly how much you mean to me until Chandrany confronted me about you a few days ago.” And Saedyna, too, really. “But I told her that you were special to me then. And that was the bigger part of what I wanted to tell you.

“You are special to me. More than just a good lay. I… care about you. As much as I care about Chandrany. And I don't want to lose either one of you. But I understand that what you want is just as important. I won't put any pressure on you. I want to hear exactly how you feel. Let it all go. Unleash it. Yell at me. Hit me if you need to. I'm here for you right now.”

V'tian opened his mouth. Closed it. Stared at C'pier, and the offered wildflower. It _was_ beautiful…

Indith pressed closer, both physically and mentally, offering steady comfort and love in response to her rider’s renewed surge of emotion. }:I am here, Mine.:{

V'tian swallowed. “I… Thank you for the wildflower.” He said, and took a shaky breath. He could do this. Indith could call Calaroth and his for support, if he needed, but he could _handle_ this. “... Chandrany is my _friend_.” He said finally. “And…. And _Faranth’s first egg_, I want to hit you. But Yuliuth doesn't… he doesn't deserve that.”

}:He may hit Ç’pier,:{ said Yuliuth to Indith. It had helped Saedyna, after all. }:If it would help him. I will help Ç’pier through the hurt.:{

“I told both of you what I did to Saedyna from the start because I wanted you to know that I meant to be truthful to you. Because I didn't want you to think I was hiding something from you. If I had understood that either of you would have wanted to know about the other, if I had understood how… If I had been fully aware of my own feelings…

“I didn't set out to lie to you or Chandrany; I didn't set out to _hurt_ either of you. But I understand that I did. And I'm sorry,” said Ç’pier. “I can't undo it. All I can do is try to make it right from now on. You don't owe me anything. But now you know how I feel.”

What was he supposed to do? What was he supposed to _say_? He'd been so _angry_ at C'pier. At himself. _Hurt_, too. He couldn’t just…

V'tian took a shaky breath, kept his hand on Indith's leg for support. “Is this the same speech you gave Chandrany when she found out about us?” He asked, finally. “Or were you planning on never saying a word?”

“None of this was _planned_,” said Ç’pier. “This was… to me, this was real. Organic. It grew into what it is now, wild and beautiful, without… without tending. Without planning.

“Chandrany is weyrfolk. I thought she would understand. We talked about how we felt about each other. I told her that I wouldn't give you up, because you meant something to me. I asked her to understand that it's possible for both of you to be equally special to me, for me to… to love you both.”

“Oh so because I'm _Holdborn_--” V'tian started. Stopped. **No…don't react. Stay calm.**

Radiance appeared out of between a moment later, followed by Sky. The little golden queen hissed, and Sky squealed a chittering scolding, perching between Indith's headknobs and mantling his wings at the much much larger brown.

“... Chandrany is my _friend_.” V'tian said finally. “Did you know _that_?” He paused, and then continued. “I _asked_ about maybe being more, do you even remember? You waved me off like it was _nothing_.”

Yuliuth laid his head down onto the ground.

}:I will go, little ones, if you wish me gone. My Ç’pier does not need me to stay. But if you will let me, I will stay here like this, humbled and lowly.:{

“You didn’t ask. You implied. You _suggested_ you might like it if I would buy you things,” said Ç’pier. “You didn't say you loved me, you didn't say you wanted me. You… you probed around for what I could _do_ for you. I told you that I came for _you_. That I came because you _called_ me, not because you were holding up a treat for me. I didn't want to _buy_ you, buy your affection. I just wanted you to want _me_.”

}:Sky is being silly.:{ Indith told Yuliuth, as though a blue firelizard perched on her own head was not also silly. She liked the little creatures. }:You may stay.:{

V'tian reddened. “So it's all my fault?” He asked, stiffly. “That I didn't know about… any of this?”

“I didn't come here asking for an apology from you,” said Ç’pier. “I'm here apologizing _to_ you. I’m here, on my knees,” he knelt, “giving you whatever you want from me, whether that's revenge, or… or whatever makes you happy. Hug me, kiss me, rip my heart out and toss it aside.”

V'tian most definitely _didn't_ wipe his sleeve hastily across his eyes. He was fine. Everything was _fine_.

“... Oh, get _up_.” He said, after a beat. Another shuddering breath. “I… I'm not an idiot, Ç'pier. I… I _know_ Weyrs don't… they don't do exclusive. I just… Why didn't you _tell_ me? Even just telling me I wasn't the only one you were seeing would have been enough.”

His voice shook, just a little. “Chandrany is my _friend_.” V'tian continued. “You made me feel like a wherry-head, Ç'pier. Like some kind of _idiot_. I… I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I _liked_ you.”

“I didn't mean to come between you. I didn't mean to make you feel stupid. I'm sorry,” said Ç’pier. “You don't have to say or decide anything right now. You can take your time, think about whether you still like me at all. Or whether you still want to.”

“... T'lin said I should tell you to fly off.” V'tian told him. “I… I came down here originally to tell you to do just that. But… I-- I don't _know_.” He took a slow breath. “... I think… I think that I need… time, Ç'pier. I don't… I don't know how I feel right now.” he said finally.

“I’m not going anywhere. Whenever you know how you feel, you know how to find me,” said Ç’pier. “And whatever you decide… I’ll understand.”

“I'll… be in touch.” V'tian said, after a long moment. Maybe.
