Sareya

Sareya waited a few days to let everything get settled with the new weyrlings before skipping over to meet Aydhara's new dragon at an early morning feeding. "Hey Aydhara!" she greeted, though Aydhara wasn't alone.

Cirina turned towards the newcomer with a smile, taking the initiative to introduce herself, "Oh, hi. I'm Cirina, another of Aydhara's friends." At least she assumed this was one of Aydhara's friends.

There was a momentary pause while Sareya sized up the other girl before offering her hand. "I'm Sareya, one of her friends too. You're...not from Barrier Lake though." That last word was said with curious confusion, since Sareya knew so many of the people at the Weyr.

Aydhara still had her hands full with Rath, who was doing his best to reach for food not yet properly prepared for him, and Slate, who had no problem begging for scraps over his head. "Shards, Rath! Fine!" She dumped too large slabs at his feet. **Do not choke, you greedygut!**

Tiredly, she waved a hand at Cirina. "You know Cirina, Sareya." She stumbled over the similar names, grinning, "Cirina's my friend from Dolphin Cove. C'rin is her brother. Cirina, Sareya is Rasme's granddaughter and Casmari's niece."

"Those chunks are far too big," Cirina said worriedly, "here, Rath, take a couple of these," Cirina dumped a few probably too small pieces in front of the other blue, "I can cut fast." Smiling at Sareya even as she moved to cut more meat, she asked curiously, "You know C'rin?"

Saejith was working his way through his own pile of carefully cut meat patiently.

Sareya hadn't heard the name in a bit but the moment Aydhara made all of those connections, it all fell into place in Sareya's mind. She snapped her fingers in epiphany. "Yes! Wow, it's been a while but yes. Welcome to Barrier Lake, Cirina! And grats on Impressing! What's his name? And his?" Part of Sareya was a little envious that her friend had Impressed -- and a blue, too! -- but she bravely didn't show it. She was here to cement her friendship and make new ones!

"This is Saejith," Cirina said proudly, "he is the absolute best." The little blue preened at the praise.

"Wrong, but I'll forgive you." Aydhara said. "Rath is the best." The big blue had already inhaled the smaller chunks and was messily gnawing on one of the too-big pieces, uncaring of the conversation happening above and around him.

"Every dragonrider thinks their dragon is the best," Sareya intoned with a grin. "Those are great names though! Unique. Well, yeah every dragon has a unique name too. But those are different. Not like, you know, Holders who name their kids matching names or something. Can I touch them?"

"Oh, of course," Cirina said, "Saejith loves pets. I think he picked a name he knew I'd like. Or maybe that's just because he's mine. Saejith, are you done?"

He wasn't, but he hurriedly gobbled down his last chunk of meat before turning around, eager for attention and oblivious to the fact that there was blood on his face. Cirina grabbed a towel and quickly wiped him clean.

"Sorry, I forget how messy the babies can be," the redhead apologized.

Rath lifted his forepaws onto the table, sniffing for more food. Aydhan dumped more pieces in his mouth and pressed her boot gently against his flank, pushing him back down to the ground. The blue grumbled, though he turned around and went back for more.

"They're so cute when they're insistent," Sareya said, a little jealous that her friends were getting to take care of their own dragons. "But don't let them eat too much! You don't want fat tail. That's _really_ messy."

"Yes, _mom_." Aydhara drawled and tossed another too-big piece at Rath. He snapped at it in the air, though it missed and smacked him across the face with a wet sound. It wasn't a question of _if_, but _when_. "He's a growing boy, he needs a big breakfast."

"I am _not_ going to help you clean that up when it happens," Cirina said, firmly. "You're going to make him fat like Avicath."

"You take that back!" Aydhara said a little too hotly.

Cirina raised her hands in surrender, but did not take it back. Meanwhile, Saejith gently headbutted Sareya for attention.

Sareya giggled at their banter as she offered her hands to Saejith to inspect before petting him. "No getting fat like Avicath. You'll need to fly," she said fondly to the little blue. "You know, Cirina, we don't really see many mottled dragons. That's interesting." Dragons and their colorings were as unique as their names.

"Thank you. He's not exactly pretty, but I like it," Cirina said earnesty. "But so much work to keep shiny right now."

"It'll get easier. Everyone says the first few months are an exhausting blur and suddenly they're able to fly and feed themselves and while there's a lot more dragon to bathe and oil, it's somehow not as bad," Sareya recited. "I mean, I help with my fathers' dragons a lot. It gets easier but that's probably because they only need it like once a sevenday or there's other people to help make it go faster." She gave Saejith a final pat and then straightened. "Maybe I'll get to attend the dragonhealing lessons they do for weyrlings this time!" Maybe she'd get to present one someday soon! She felt like she was really getting the hang of it and surely someone would let her step up, even if she was an apprentice, right? Right.

"Soon _we'll_ be the ones telling candidates they have to help us wash our dragons." Aydhara said. "You can help with ours, Sareya, at least until you Impress. Then we can coo at how sweet your dragonet is."

"Oh I think I'll be sad when he doesn't need daily washing," Cirina said, looking fondly at the still tiny blue. To Sareya, she asked, "Who are your fathers? Do I know them? My parents are both riders, too From Riverbluff originally."

Beaming at the prospect of having the two newest women blueriders helping her out with her own dragon when she finally got one, Sareya answered proudly, "S'ros and D'men! You've probably met S'ros, right? He's helping out with the weyrlings this clutch. And my grandmother is Rasme, who is one of the dragonhealers that's training me."

"Oh, yeah, S'ros." Cirina wrinkled her nose, "He's kind of a dork. My condolences," she joked. "Oh! You're a dragonhealer? I had to spend a month cleaning the dragon infirmary one time. That work is so cool. I mean. I was just like mopping and scrubbing stuff, but I saw someone stitching a wing back together!"

Sareya brightened visibly. " Did your old Weyr make you do chores in the Infirmary? Stitching a wing is what I'm learning to do! They make us practice it on this really fine cloth, like a gauze, first but soon I'll be doing it on the real thing!"

"Oh, sometimes. I got in trouble for sneaking onto the Sands though, so that was a punishment," Cirina said, not sounding particularly annoyed about it. "That's exciting. Dragonhealing is one of the only crafts I think is worth it. I'd have done that but, you know. It's messy."

The apprentice dragonhealer wrinkled her nose. "And everything smells like redwort. I guess I'm getting used to it though." There was a call from across the Weyrbowl -- probably her annoying brother -- and Sareya made a disappointed face. "Okay, I have to go. But I'll come visit you both soon! I'm so happy for you!"

"You get it!" Cirina gushed, "I thought my hands would never go back to their normal colors! Anyway, nice to meet you, bye!" Cirina waved goodbye.
