The Letter

Writers: Paula
Date Posted: 24th July 2006

Characters: Ednan
Description: Ednan writes a letter to his family.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 13, day 2 of Turn 3

Ednan sat on the rock, his legs crossed and writing equipments in his lap. A green firelizard was eating a fish next to him. The flit belonged to his oldest brother and had brought a letter from him. Ednan was writing an answer.

"Hello Endrion, nice to hear from you, big bro. You know, I would like it, if you stopped calling me the baby-bro. I'm a grown man, turned 18 few months ago and I'm a whole inch taller than our brother Rio!"

Ednan stopped for a while, chewed his pen and run his fingers thru his copper red hair. Tall, slim, with athletic body, blue eyes and red hair, he was rather stringing looking young man.

"How is Rio by the way? I haven't heard anything of him since he went back to Healer hall for his specialization studies. Enilda is fine, and would send her love, if she knew about this letter. She's determined to become a master harper in record time. I met her sevenday ago. Her feline ran off again. One of these days that fur ball will be eaten by a dragon. I'm still trying to make her learn to swim but she is just too afraid of the sea."

Ednan stopped to think about his sister. Enilda was the youngest one of the five siblings. A pretty girl, two turns younger than Ednan, with the same copper red hair-colour. She was ambitious and more that bit spoiled. Ednan loved her dearly but felt he had little in common with her. His love was dolphineering, while music was just a hobby. Enilda was very passionate about music and scared by the seas. She wasn't even interested in meeting dolphins! Ednan shook his head ruefully. The two of them might look alike but their personalities very totally different.

Ednan returned to his letter. "I'm glad to hear that Riendra is happy. I would love to see her babies one day. And, no, I don't have a girl-friend. There's one bluerider who has his eye on me but I'm not interested in THAT stuff! That's the danger of living next to the Weyr. Remember Kegy, the young dolphin I've been writing about? The two of us have been talking about partnering. Of course, we have to wait a few more turns, to me to walk the tables and her to reach her maturity. I doubt the pod has anything against it, I know Kegy's dam doesn't. She's very grateful of all things I've done for her calf. Kegy's injuries won't be problem if we specialize in healing. Of course, at this point it is all speculations. " Ednan broke off to rest his hand a bit. He gazed at the sea. He could see the pod, playing at the waves, and ship, True Runner probably, approaching the hall's dock. It was familiar sight, and after six turns, it felt like he was home. He still missed his family but the dolphin hall was now his home.

"Well, I better cut this letter short, before it comes too long to Tildy to carry. Please, send my love to Riendra and Rio next time you write them. With Love, Ednan," he finished the letter with flourish signature. He rolled it up. "Tildy, come here, good girl," he called at his brother's firelizard. She had finished with her fish and flew to perch on his knee. He attached the letter to her. "Now, go back to Endrion," he asked. The little green just cocked her head, chirped inquiringly and licked her muzzle. Somehow Ednan just knew what she wanted. "Sorry, no more fish. I'm all out of fish, maybe Endrion has some fish", he told and showed her his empty hands. Letting out a disappointed sound, the firelizard flew off, with the letter. Ednan could only hope she delivered it safely.
