"Ednan?" Trellyn said a little nervous as she walked up behind him.
He was working on his signals with Kegy and had his back to her as he sat on the edge of the platform. She knew she had to end their romantic relationship before it got past drunken kisses... just how?

Ednan turned to look and smiled. "Morning, journeywoman."

**Why did he have to have such an adorable smile...** "Um, how's Kegy doing this morning?" **Coward!**

"Just fine. She's perky and eager and full of energy. Like all children," Ednan replied and the mentioned dolphin whistled her own greeting. Sometimes she just forgot to speak 'human'.

"That's good." Might as well jump right in... "So um... about the other night..."

"Yes?" Ednan asked, his smile widening with the memory.

"It can't happen again." her voice was laced with sadness and she couldn't quite look him in the eye.

The smile faltered and his face demanded further explanation.

Trellyn sighed, trying to force herself to sound sure. "It's just not appropriate. You're an apprentice, and I'm one of your instructors.
Drinking and Turn's Beginning can forgive alot, but it just can't happen again."

"Yes, journeywoman Trellyn," Ednan said stiffly and turned his face away so she couldn't see the moistness of his eyes. He could understand her reasoning but it _hurt_. He had gotten his hopes up and now the were crushed.

She wanted to tell him how she felt. That the kisses had meant something, that she wished things were different... But she kept silent, it would be better to just stop before things got worse. She watched Kegy eye Ednan and then slap water on his legs to get his attention. Trellyn sat down next to him, their thighs almost touching, and tossed a ring out for the dolphin to retrieve. "You've done alot of good with Kegy you know."

"Thank you. She's a brave little girl," Ednan's voice was still stiff from suppressed feelings but it was obvious that he was fond of the little dolphin. "Se does well concerning she lost the sight of one eye."

Trellyn nodded, safer ground was best. "But she's young enough to compensate and not let it bother her. If she had been older, she might have had a harder time of it."

"Eddy play?" the little dolphin asked.

"Eddy play soon," Ednan promised. "Kegy and I actually plan to become partners after she's full grown", Ednan told.

"I think you two will do well together when the time comes." she agreed easily.

Ednan nodded and just watched the little dolphin playing in water.

She gave a small smile and followed his gaze out into the water. This was good, they were able to talk civilly and hopefully things would get back to normal between them. She wished circumstances could have been different... but things were as they were, and her feelings for the young dolphineer didn't matter in the big picture.

Ednan has always been a romantic and a daydreamer. But he was also good at hiding his feelings. He felt like crying, his heart was broken. But he let nothing show out.
