She'd always known

Writers: Anna, Bree
Date Posted: 4th January 2007

Characters: Kirranna, Y'sani
Description: Kirranna is officially told by the Weyrlingmaster that she won't get to graduate with her class.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 13 of Turn 4

Apparently the Weyrlingmaster had heard about her little incident with the firestone bags because he had sent a message through her dragon that she needed to come see him as soon as possible. She had still been in the infirmary getting checked out, but all signs seemed to show that she and the baby were fine, even if she might have a big bruise on her hip for a while.

Once she had been released she had made her way to the Weyrlingmaster's office. She knocked on the door and waited to be let in.

Y'sani opened the door after a few moments and nodded for Kirranna to come inside. "Have a seat, please."

Kirra went inside after the Weyrlingmaster and sat down in one of the available chairs. She had an idea of what to expect but she didn't want to assume anything, hoping in denial that she wasn't there for what she thought she was.

"I heard there was an incident," Y'sani said mildly, sitting down on the other side of his desk. "Would you like to tell me about it?"

Kirra sighed, "Well, we were throwing firestone and the bag slipped out of D'rue's hands and hit me in the shoulder. It threw me off balance and I fell. He helped me up to the infirmary and Midwife Coriat said that I was fine, as well as the baby." She decided to try and ignore the fact that if this had happened a month later she probably would have been even more off balance and probably lost the baby in the fall.

Y'sani nodded, his face void of emotion. "And what do you think this incident tells us?"

Kirra gave up. There was no use trying to avoid the obvious, "It tells us that I can't do any of the physical part of the weyrling training any more."
She tried not to sound as deflated as her hopes were feeling right then.

Pleased that she was at least ready to admit it, he nodded. "You won't be graduating with your class, but no one really thought that would happen once we knew you were pregnant, Kirra. You're not the first pregnant weyrling I've dealt with, though, so I've got plenty to keep you busy until you can return to your training."

The weyrling tried not to look unhappy but figured her attempt wasn't very good. She nodded her head in understanding, "Yes Weyrlingmaster, I figured I wouldn't be able to graduate with my class, I guess I was just hoping." she grinned a bit, "I'll have to be honest though Sir, that I'm not particularly excited about more hides to read, but I guess keeping myself busy is better than having nothing to do."

"Oh, it won't be all reading hides," Y'sani replied with a grin. "You certainly can't keep up with the type of exercise the other weyrlings are doing, but you'll have your own routines under healer supervision. And you'll still have to attend all of the lectures, as well as helping with some of the candidate classes."

Kirra raised her eyebrows slightly, "Well all that sounds more interesting than _just_ reading hides all day." And the thougt of getting to help with the candidate classes sounded fun. She had always had an afinity for helping people learn things especially if they were younger than her. Which probably wouldn't be the case with most of the candidates.

"I don't think you'll be bored," he promised, standing. "I'm going to meet with the healers later this sevenday and we'll have a schedule for you worked out. If you need anything before that, just have your dragon bespeak Luthinath. All right?"

Kirra realized there little meeting was over so stood and inclined her head respectfully, "Thank you weyrlingmaster, of course I'll tell you if I need anything but I think I'll be okay." She smiled.
