Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 2 of Turn 3
Gaiya sat outside Abrei's office, her knees bouncing up and down a bit as she waited impatiently. Just what time did the woman finish working every night?
Abrei's door finally opened, but when the Weyrhealer stuck her head out it became clear that she wasn't leaving. "Kyjare! I told you to bring me that file a _half candlemark_ ago!" Her voice made the journeyman who had been chatting to one of the apprentices jump, and he hurried off toward a side office with a guilty look over his shoulder.
Shaking her head, Abrei caught sight of Gaiya. Her face suddenly looked wary, but she managed a smile. "Gaiya. What are you doing out here? Is something wrong?"
Gaiya stood and flushed guiltily as journeyman rushed passed her at a quickened pace, not wanting to be caught dallying in front of the Weyrhealer. "Well... no... I mean. Um, it can wait."
"No, come on it..." Abrei cast an annoyed look in the direction of one of the journeyman. "I have to wait for Kyjare's report in any case. Come sit down and tell me what you need." It wasn't an invitation, and Abrei jerked her head back into her office and kicked the door open, fully expecting Gaiya to follow.
**Shards, Gaiya, what were you thinking?** the fostermother thought as she obediently sank down in the chair. "Well, you see, I was wondering if you could give me... well a little advice... or at least some...
womanly council."
Abrei froze half way into her chair, giving Gaiya a perplexed look. "You want to ask _me_ for womanly council?" "Well, you _are_ a woman, and you are in a relationship with a man, so I figure you have to have learned _something_ Abrei," Gaiya said defensively, knowing that her rationalization was rather lame..
"All right..." Abrei settled into her chair and set her elbows on her desk, figuring this would either be a highly embarrassing conversation or a very short one. Possibly both. "What do you need to know?"
"Well, it's about Ar'lis. He's been getting a little... friendly lately."
Gaiya confessed as she started wringing her hands in her lap nervously.
"Oh?" Since Abrei hadn't exactly noticed Ar'lis ever _not_ being friendly, that wasn't much of a surprise. Granted, he took hints better than most bronzeriders, since she'd never found the need to threaten to break any of his fingers... but if there was one thing every bronzerider she'd ever met had in common, it was an appreciation for women. Lots of women, usually. "All right," Gaiya said as she stood and started pacing around the room.
"A while back I went to Ar'lis' weyr to invite him to dinner, and I...
well, I interrupted him and a greenrider and when she left he... well, he kind of tried to turn his attentions to me. And I didn't appreciate that."
"Understandable," Abrei replied, doing her best not to imagine herself in the same situation. Ar'lis hadn't come in with a broken nose, so Gaiya's reaction had obviously not been the same as Abrei's would have been. "So of course I just thought he was some sharding jerk, and I didn't talk to him for a long time... but now..." Gaiya looked at Abrei for understanding.
"Now you don't mind that he's getting friendly?" Abrei guessed, feeling more than a little out of her depth. Maybe that was why she got along so well with R'han... the last thing the bronzerider was going to be asking her to do was discuss relationships--theirs included. Gaiya felt relieved. She was sure Abrei wasn't going to catch on! the young woman smiled and nodded, "Yes, that's it! He's just be so sweet Abrei! He rescued Pepper from a tree, he took me fruit picking, and then when I baked him a pie and brought it to him we made out on his sofa and it felt so sharding _good_!"
Abrei desperately scanned her romantic experience for anything approaching similar events. R'han was the one who tended to bring _her_ food... and all but hold her down until she ate it. And she was having a hard time imagining him climbing a tree to rescue her feline... though not as hard a time as she was having trying to imagine herself _owning_ a feline to begin with. This was clearly a conversation that was _not_ meant to be. Still, Abrei nodded because if there was one thing she _did_ understand, it was that kissing bronzeriders could be very, very enjoyable. "Well... there's nothing wrong with it feeling good, I suppose. That's the entire point." "Yes, but he was such a sharding _jerk_ before," Gaiya said flinging her arms up helplessly. "Should I really be rewarding a couple good deeds, and some very nice kissing, to such an arse?"
"Ar'lis is a nice enough man most of the time, Gaiya..." Abrei felt she could say that, at least, with some measure of confidence. "I don't think there's anything wrong with... kissing him." "If it was only kissing Abrei I wouldn't be here. When we were kissing I was imagining all kinds of things I really wanted to do to him, and kissing him on the lips was just a start." She groaned at herself as she flopped back into the chair.
"Ahhh..." Abrei couldn't help but smile. "Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with any of the rest of it, either. Obviously. In fact, I rather approve of it." Gaiya sighed dramatically. "So you would forget the fact that he was a wherry's arse in the past and just throw him down and have your way with him?"
Abrei quirked an eyebrow at Gaiya. "I think there is probably quite compelling evidence to indicate that I would, no matter how loudly I ended up screaming about the man in question _being_ a wherry's arse. Or how often." Gaiya grimaced and nodded. "Well, yes, that's true. You do sleep with R'han, after all." "Mmmhmm..." Abrei smiled. "And sometimes even a wherry's arse can make up for everything horrible that they've done if you give them a chance.
Trust me." "Thank you, Abrei. I knew you were the right person to ask." Gaiya smiled as she stood to her feet.
"Well, I'm glad one of is sure about that," Abrei replied, shaking her head.
"Good luck with it, Gaiya. And if he does anything bad, tell him I'll break his fingers."
