Sharding Good Cookies

Writers: Dana, Eimi
Date Posted: 27th September 2005

Characters: Ar'lis, Gaiya
Description: Ar'lis and Gaiya share some coy banter and some "_sharding_ good" cookies
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 7 of Turn 3

Ar'lis waited outside Gaiya's door, a plate full of cookies cradled carefully in his hands. Shards, he hoped he did it right! Even with the cook keeping her watchful eye on him all the while, he wasn't sure how they turned out. He'd glanced at her every now and again, to ask her questions, but he'd caught Mirela hiding an amused smile behind one hand as she demonstrated how to whisk the batter with the other. He knew what she thought: Ar'lis the bronzerider? _Baking_?

Even he had to chuckle at himself for trying to attempt such a feat!

Gaiya opened the door and was as pleasantly surprised by the bronzerider as she was by the smell of cookies. "Ar'lis! What did you steal for me?"

He leaned in to brush his lips across hers gently before coming inside. He turned and grinned at her as she closed the door. "I didn't _steal_
anything, Gaiya. Well...maybe the cook's time..."

"What do you mean?" Gaiya asked as she turned to close the door. She took the moment her back was turned to compose herself. Being kissed by Ar'lis was still new and exciting, and still felt slightly forbidden. But that latter was ignored in favor of the much stronger feeling of glee that it gave her.

"I mean that I _made_ these," he held the plate aloft, almost as if in triumph.

"You _made_ those?" Gaiya asked skeptically as she turned back towards him, her lips twisting into a smile. "By yourself?"

"Well..." He looked at his cookies. "_Mostly_. I've never baked before in my life, Gaiya, and I wanted a cook nearby to watch and make sure I wasn't making any mistakes..." He held out the plate to her, his expression almost boyish.

She looked at the cookies suspiciously. "And did the cook stand by the whole time?"

"Yes." He looked at her. "Don't look at them like that...you might hurt my feelings," he teased with a wink as he handed them to her.

She picked one up, turned it over in her fingers can smelled it. "You did say the whole time, right?" Gaiya was enjoying stretching out his suspense.

"Shards, woman, just _bite_ the sharding cookie," he took a step closer to her, "before I start taking a little nibble out of you, hmm?" He bent forward so that his lips hovered near her neck, teasing her.

"All right, all right," she laughed, his proximity to her neck sent tickling shivers along her spine. Shrugging away she took a bite. She chewed thoughtfully for a moment. "The whole time? Really?" Giggling she took a couple steps back from him, just out of the reach of any retaliation he might think up - and yet her eyes were subtly encouraging him to exact a bit of revenge.

He set the plate down on the small table and moved towards her without taking his eyes away from her grinning, impish face. "Yes, really," he growled, a grin turning up the corners of his lips as he slunk closer.

"What flavor are they supposed to be again?" Her smile only widened as she backed away from him again.

"Why don't you take another bite and see if you can figure it out, hmm? You're a bright girl," he murmured as he advanced.

"Do you even _know_ what flavor they are? You did ask the cook what you were making, didn't you?" She continued to back up until she ran into a table. Before he could reach her she took another bite of cookie and spun out of the way once more.

Undeterred, he kept on advancing. Slowly. "Ungrateful chit," he growled softly, but the look in his eyes was maliciously teasing. "I bake you fresh goods, and this is how you treat me?" They were nearing the wall. Soon, she'd have no room to run.

"All right, you just wait right there," Gaiya said, her voice no longer teasing. She pointed her cookie right at him. "I don't appreciate _anyone_ calling me a _chit_."

And she wasn't kidding, either. He'd only been _teasing_ for Faranth's sake... He looked at her then inclined his head. "All right, Gaiya. You're not a chit."

"Good." She popped the rest of the cookie into his mouth. "Now hurry up and chew so you can kiss me."

And he hurried. And chewed. And swallowed. Then, grinning, he wrapped his arms around her and gently brought her up against the wall. "Personally, I like the way my baking turned out..." He bent his head to begin kissing at the side of her neck.

"They are _sharding_ good cookies," she whispered as she laid one hand an his arm and reached the other up to tangle in his hair. "I think you could have been a fine baker."

"Mmm..." His lips slid up to her earlobe. "Perhaps... But I think I make a much better bronzerider." He let one hand move to lightly massage the base of her neck. "Don't you?"

"Well," she squeaked slightly, "as a foster mother it's all the same to me." Of course, her overly romantic mind was screaming **Oh _shards_ what a bronzerider!**

"It's _all_ the same?" He lifted his head for a moment to grin at her before he lowered his lips to the pale flesh of her neck. Shifting his hips slightly against her, he gently pulled the side of her blouse away just enough so he could kiss the bend of her shoulder.

"No," Gaiya all but gasped. Shards, but that felt nice. "No, the dragonriders are definitely less inhibited."

"Mmm-hmm..." He lightly licked her pulse. "That we are, sweetheart," he smiled, touching his nose briefly to hers before taking her mouth with his.

The young woman's breathing had already quickened. Now she could feel the blood race through her veins as she curled her fingers through his hair. She wanted him. She had wanted him since she was old enough to want a man. Only in her most secret day dreams had she actually thought it would happen, and yet now, here they were. Part of her wondered if it was a good idea - bringing a secret fantasy to life. But this Ar'lis was real and felt so good... It was all a bit confusing, and yet so simple.

Ar'lis tightened his hold on her back, curling her closer against his body, both to steady her against himself and the wall, and to enjoy the sharding _good_ sensations her proximity was bringing to him. His lips parted just enough to let her breathe, and he kissed the tip of her nose, then the corners of her mouth.

Gaiya laughed a little as she leaned back against the wall to steady herself and give her room to breath. "You taste like your cookies."

"So do you..." He grinned at her, stroking her hair away from her brow. "Delicious...."

"I think they would go rather nicely with a cup of klah, don't you? It would be a terrible waste to stand here... talking, while the fruits of your labor grow colder by the minute."

"Mmm..." He kissed her. "And we shouldn't let them get cold while we stand here...talking, now, should we?" The look in his eyes was positvely boyish as he stepped back, keeping one arm around her waist as he led them to the couch.

She allowed herself to be lead, but she looked up at him with a coy smile as she sank into the couch. "Didn't you forget something?"

He looked down at her. "Hmm?"

She pointed at the plate still sitting on the table. "The cookies?"

Ar'lis looked over to where she pointed, and then met her eyes again. "Oh yes. Well..." He reached out and grabbed the plate then moved to settle comfortably next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

As she snagged another cookie, Gaiya decided not to mention that he had forgot the klah as well. She was pretty sure their interest in the cookies wouldn't last very long anyway. Besides, she was rather looking forward to kissing the cookie crumbs from his lips...
