"Kouna!" Mosler yelled through the rain and wind as he finally found her on the dock. "What's our status?" "Well I got all the boats to unstep their masts. But only the small sailboats can fit in the storehouses. I sent the largest out to ride out the storm and that's all we can do about them. All non-essential items have been moved inside. The shutters have been reinforced." She checked off the things she said on a clipboard as she yelled at Mosler over the wind. "We should get the smaller dolphin docks up above the tideline, and thank Faranth that we live in a stone Hold."
Mosler was impressed at all she had gotten accomplished in the short time he had been gone to the Weyr. "Good." he said as he closed the door to the dockmaster's office. It was quieter then out in the downpour so they could speak on a more normal range. "Those mid sized ships will have to be put to anchor in the harbor. They might not make it, but I know they'll tear apart our docks if they stay lashed to it."
"That's what I thought. I've got every available hand out getting docks above the tideline and securing anything that can't be moved. I was just about to go help them myself." She flipped up the piece of plastic she had over her clipboard to keep off the rain and checked another sheet. "All small wood is scheduled to be moved to the higher levels from the woodroom and the linens in the spare rooms were stripped. If this storm is as bad as the dolphin's say it is we'll need everything we can save." She lowered her clipboard to look at him. "I'm scared that we'll loose the docks even if we bring them above the tideline. The swell's probably going to be huge."
She remembered her classes on unusual weather patterns well.
"Well, if we lose the float docks, we lose them. I'm more worried about our storage buildings on the beach.
Those stilts only go so high." Mosler stopped to give his face a hard rubbing, he's only gotten an hour or two of sleep and his energy was waning. "I'm heading to the cavern to make sure they're sandbagging enough, we don't want our lower levels flooded. When you're finished here, make sure all the dolphins get out to sea. You know they'll be here till the last second helping us and I don't want any of them getting bashed against the pylons."
"I sent as many as would listen out with the big ships. And I'll go see what we can do about the storage buildings after I get the medium ships manned and anchored in the harbor." Kouna made a note on the clipboard.
Mosler opened the door and stepped out into the rain again. "Just make sure you get in before we start sandbagging the main door. I wouldn't want to lose you in the storm." "Aww come one." Kouna said sarcastically. "You ruin all my fun. Did you here that Via? He doesn't want to loose me. I feel all important now." Via chirped at her owner from her shoulder perch. Kouna turned her head to face Mosler. "Trust me. We'll get through this. And no one's going to die. Not if I have anything to say about it. Now go get busy taking care of your Hall, Master Dolphineer. I've got everything under control on the docks."
He gave her shoulder a squeeze, "I know you do. See you soon." he added as he left towards the Hall.
