Characters: Dysali, D'ren
Description: Dysali searches out D'ren after the storm has passed, glad they
both survived the tragic day.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 19 of Turn 4
Tired, dirty, bruised and perhaps still bleeding - she wasn't sure -
Dysali staggered into D'ren's weyr. Thankfully the rain had stopped
candlemarks ago, and Lillyth and Menanth were collapsed in a
intertwined pile on Menanth's ledge.
She was carrying some extra water, not sure if she could even make it
down to the bathing chambers to bathe, though she definitely needed a
bath, and so did Lillyth.
Even if she could make it, she really wanted D'ren to come with her.
"D'ren.. D'ren are you awake?"
"Hmm?" His head lifted off the couch and he blinked. He must have
dozed off. Shards, it had been such a long day. "What is it, love?"
"I .. just .. I wanted to make sure you were okay. And maybe go take
a bath together." Her voice was tired, but she moved closer to him
and kneeled beside him, touching him. Her hands ran down his sides,
as if making sure he was really there. "I heard what you did today.
I was worried."
"Menanth got a little scraped up, but we're fine." He pulled her
closer and kissed her forehead. Then D'ren's voice grew quieter. "One
of the bronze pairs didn't make it. They were lost /between/ along
with the two eggs they had been carrying." Four lives gone in an
instant.
"How terribly sad..." she shivered when he said one of them didn't
make it. "With two of the eggs? Oh, D'ren. Poor Nyith! Two more were
lost in the flood. 4 dragons gone... like that..." She pressed her
forehead to
his, even though she wasn't very clean. "Its so hard to believe.
Its just water... but so much destruction. Like Thread. Mindless."
"How much more can we take?" he wondered aloud. The accident less than
a turn ago, and now this.
"We're dragonriders." She said softly, but it was without the normal
heat it would have had. She was as tired as he of the constant drain
on their resources.
D'ren sat back on the couch and tugged her arm gently, encouraging her
to sit next to him. "Where did you help?"
She moved when he tugged, but only because she was so used to moving
with him. She fit perfectly beside him, as she had found out on
numerous occasions. "Oh, but I'm so dirty.. you sure?" She mumbled,
but settled anyway. "I filled sandbags all morning, then helped with
keeping the weyrlings calm." Her voice trailed off to silence on the
word 'weyrlings'.
"D'ren.." a whisper. "We lost some weyrlings over the ocean. A
group of them go so scared they tried to go /between/. Two never
came out and one crashed into the sea." Her voice fumbled over the
words. He - nor she - did not need any more sadness.
"Faranth," he said quietly, his throat tightening. Not caring how
dirty she was, D'ren pulled Dysali closer to him.
A few tears rolled down her cheeks, leaving trails. There were no
tearing, gut-wrenching sobs, but instead a sadness that seemed to need
an outlet. Lillyth half awoke outside on the ledge and began to
croon, filling Dysali's head with warmth and love, reminding her that
they were both alive - alive and together. Held tightly in D'ren's
arms, she remembered that _he_ was alive too. "We're alive." she said
firmly, trying to stop the traitorous way her eyes were leaking.
"Still alive," he confirmed with a small, bittersweet smile. Yes, they
were still alive, and with little injury. In the midst of all this
tragedy, it was worth celebrating. "We made it through," the smile
turned more genuine.
"We've been through alot together, haven't we?" She said softly,
tracing his face with his fingers. She leaned forward to kiss him,
quite deliberately. She needed to remind him - both of them - that
they were here, alive and together.
"Yes, we have." D'ren returned the kiss and then moved his lips to her
cheek. He pulled up, making a face. "You taste a little dusty."
She wrinkled her nose at him. "If you really loved me, you wouldn't
mind a little dust." But she smiled after that, and went on. "I'm
quite dirty. But I wanted you to come down to the bathing pool with
me. Parts of it were undamaged and I really need a bath. Do we
have that much strength?"
"I think I can manage a trip down there. And if you can't, I'll carry
you." He kissed the tip of her nose. "We'd just have to make several
rest stops on the way." What he really wanted to do was sleep, but a
bath did sound nice.
She smiled more energetically, finding some energy from the prospect
of a bath in her near future. "I'll make it up to you once I'm
clean." She promised with another smile - one that she only smiled for
D'ren. "Lillyth might be able to carry us both down if you like.. I
don't think she's as tired as Menanth."
"That would be nice." And maybe the bath would wake him up a little so
he and Dysali could enjoy each other's company for a while before
going to sleep.
Grinning, she scampered away from him to go out to the ledge to roust
out her dragon. "Come on, lazy green beauty! We need a lift."
}:I am tired and I like it here with Menanth.:{
Lillyth raised her head to peer at her rider with her eyes whirling slowly.
**Come on, my perfect lady. I'll bathe and oil you twice for every
time you carry us down to the bathing chambers, please?**
The green finally relented, regally inclining her head and shifting
out from under Menanth's wing.
Waving to D'ren, she moved toward the extended foreleg, her carisak of
towels and clean clothes leaning nearby. "Her good will only last so
far, love.. ready?"
"Definitely." He smiled and hurried over. "The sooner we get clean,
the sooner we can come back."
She gave him an arch little smile. "Mmm.. I think I might want to
keep you up for a while, once we're clean."
