research in advanced dolphin care

Yara approached the dock where the older looking journeyman was half-in and half-out of the water examining a dolphin.
"Are you Senior Journeyman Aidaryt?" she asked with a smile.
"I am. Let me finish up with Cayseh and I'll be right there." he said before turning back to his dolphin partner. She had come over with a complaint of a parasite that she couldn't get off. He was more than happy to remove it for her and make sure there weren't any others about.
He scratched her chin after assessing that there was nothing else wrong and said, "All done, Cayseh. Go play, we'll swim later." He knew that she would want him to come all the way into the water with her, so he didn't let her ask.
The dolphin glanced at the journeywoman and asked, "Talk with her, then swim?"
He nodded and was thankful that she simply accepted that for an answer. Maybe they were both getting soft in their turns of working together. He pulled himself back up onto the dock and said, "How can I be of assistance Journeywoman?"
"I'm Yara, I've just recently transferred in from the Northern Hall. I am supposed to see you about some of my research for coursework in advanced dolphin care."
"Hello Yara, it's nice to meet you. Tell me what is it you're working on?" he said remembering a prior conversation about someone who wanted to know more about dolphin care. He was more than happy to share his knowledge and loved having a willing audience to impart said wisdom to. It was much more satisfying than teaching the apprentices who didn't have an interest in the intricacies. Not that he disliked teaching apprentices as it was something crucial to their training, but he did like having a chance to talk to those who appreciated his specialty every once and awhile.
"Well, one of the most susceptible areas for our friends seems to be their skin. It is soft like ours so cuts, abrasions, and parasites seem to be one of their most significant threats. Of course they do often seem to heal quickly. I was hoping to do some research on skin treatments, what is generally done, and what might be improved upon."
"You're in luck as I happen to have a lot of experience with that and would be more than happy to help you in your research. What interests you the most about dolphin healing?" he asked trying to resist the urge to barrage her with questions too soon.
"They do so much for us, and sometimes it seems as if we don't offer a great deal in return. I just like the idea of helping them any way that we can and thus fulfilling our contract with them to the fullest extent," Yara answered trying to explain her reasoning. "Also, I'd have to say that their anatomy and physiology holds a great deal of interest for me."
"I couldn't agree more. It is very unique and that makes it interesting for me." Aidaryt replied deciding he was really going to like this young journeywoman.
"Was that your partner you were helping or another of the pod?"
"That was Cayseh, she is my partner. We've worked together for many turns and I can't imagine not having her around."
"I really hope to have a dolphin partner someday,"
Yara answered wistfully.
"I'm sure you will in time. There are quite a few here that are unpartnered and several young ones who will be ready to work with a dolphineer soon." he replied trying to be encouraging without sounding patronizing.
Yara chuckled, "Well, I hope so, though I realize not everyone does find a partner. Swimming with the pod is wonderful though, and I do hope that my studies will prove beneficial to all dolphins," she said, switching back to the original conversation.
"I have quite a bit of research on treating dolphin skin ailments, but I'm anxious to see if there are differences between the Northern and Southern Halls.
I'm also looking for those areas that dolphineers are truly dissatisfied with the success of current treatments. I was hoping you might have some of this information more readily available. Though I don't mind time in the archives, I'd rather be reading or doing rather than searching."
"I just might be able to help you in that regards. I know exactly where to find that information without having to dig through piles of ancient hides.
I have records of all the treatments I have done, overseen or observed along with what worked or didn't work over the turns. You're more than welcome to look through them." Aidaryt offered as he understood her aversion to searching for information when the time could be better spent actively applying theories.
Yara offered the older journeyman a big smile, "I can't thank you enough. I'm excited to see what you've done. When would be a good time to review your records?"
"It is not a problem. I am thrilled to have someone as interested as me in the subject. How about tomorrow evening? It will give me sufficient time to gather them together and put them in a presentable manner." he replied with a grin of his own. "That sounds perfect!"
