With a smile, Yara recognized Jaimon sitting a the far table and approached, "Good evening, Jaimon," she offered taking the seat opposite him.

The only time he had spoken to her had been while swimming, but he had enjoyed the time with her and had made a point of looking for her while on land. So often dolphineer appearances changed from wet to dry, but he definitely recognized her. "Good evening, Yara. Are you settling in?"

"I am. Everyone, both human and dolphin, has been very welcoming. This has been a terrific move for me."

"Your father - isn't that who accompanied you here? Has her returned to the North?"

"He hasn't yet. I'm enjoying his stay as I don't expect to see him again for some turns," she answered before spearing some fresh greens from her plate.

"It's good to have family nearby," he agreed, "though when he leaves, you'll still have your grandda."

Yara's answer was a huge grin, "And he's wonderful! I am so glad to get this opportunity to know him through more than letters. Are you close with your uncle? Or your other family?"

"My parents live in-land and it's difficult to stay in touch with them. My uncle has been gone for a while, still at Topaz, but we were able to keep up with each other through messages passed on by dolphin pods," he grinned broadly, "though those were sometimes difficult to interpret. My cousins are like little sisters to me, so I suppose that I do have close family."

"That's good. This will be an adjustment to me, I've a gaggle of sisters back up North and nieces and nephews in addition to my parents. As far as family goes, it will be just me and Boppa, once my Da leaves." Yara cocked her head reflectively, "Still, I think I'll have quite a bit to keep me busy for some time, getting to know the people and routine of this Hall."

"_Most_ of the people here are nice, though there are a few to watch out for," he told her. As to routine, I doubt that it's much different from that in the North, except for the occasional interruption by hurricane or earthquake."

A mischievous glimmer flashed in Yara's eyes, "And are you willing to share which of those people I should watch out for?"

"I shouldn't," he told her, but glanced around to see that no one was nearby before continuing in a low voice. "But you'll not want to cross the Master Cartographer. He's grumpy enough without anyone giving him reason."

"I'll keep that in mind. Anything that I can do to keep in his good graces? Or is it best just to steer clear?"

This brought a laugh from the other journeyman. "I don't know of anyone he actually likes, so it's probably best to stay away from him."

"Well, enough. Cartography isn't my area of expertise anyway." Yara took a few bites and then a swallow of juice. "What aspect of dolphineering do you find most interesting, Jaimon?"

"Dolphin communication," he replied without a moment's hesitation. "That may be because Meel is so minimal in the way he talks, but I've always been fascinated by the way dolphins make themselves understood, both verbally and through their actions."

"I've loved learning more about their nonverbal communication," Yara enthused. "It is so well developed and has so many nuances."

He nodded in agreement. "It definitely is and I'm still learning what so many of the variations mean. Of course, some of their communication I'll never understand - sonar is interesting in theory, but unfortunately we'll never actually experience it."

"That's for certain. It's interesting that this ability of theirs which has helped us so immensely is so impossible for us to comprehend. Actually, their tactile communication is almost as fascinating to me, though."

"I've thought about that and I think that much of the tactile component we simply choose _not_ to understand. After all, if you watch younger children, much of what they do involves touching those around them and communicating in that way, but over the turns they learn that it's somehow not acceptable to touch." He paused and chuckled. "And we're supposed to be relaxing and enjoying our lunch, not holding a deep discussion on craft issues."

Yara laughed as well. "I _like_ discussing deep craft issues, but I suppose the complexities might be a bit much for mid day. Perhaps we could get together some evening to talk a bit more about dolphin communication. I'd be interested in hearing more of your observations."

He nodded at her suggestion, very willing to get to know her better. "I'd like that. Shall we plan to meet for dinner some evening? Perhaps we could even picnic on the beach?"

"That would be perfect," Yara replied, her enthusiasm for the idea showing in her eyes.
