}:That's feels nice:{ Velth almost crooned in ecstasy as D'gan smoothed more oil over his hide. }:You wouldn't let me sleep before, but I can now?:{
**I wouldn't let you sleep becuase you're way too heavy for me to carry now, and you wouldn't have liked to spend a night out on the beach.** D'gan replied, an indulgent smile on his face, **But yes, you can sleep now.** he agreed, nodding.
}:Rub me to sleep?:{ With a happy sigh D'gan rubbed a wide circle over the dragons back, "And to think, I gave up running for this." he laughed softly to himself. He lifted his gaze and realised he wasn't the only one in the barracks caught in the same position.
Ch'bal smiled, though sadness touched his eyes. "I hadn't thought to give up the other life," he admitted. "I just came here because I was told it was duty to Stand. I certainly never thought that she'd find me and change my life so."
"You're not entirely happy?" D'gan asked, shifting so he could face the other weyrling more fully. He could see the confusion on the younger boys face, and wondered if it were more than just being away from the life he had grown up to.
"Oh, I'm happy." The boy's hand rested possessively on green Vaith's flank. "I'd not trade her for anything, but I still haven't adjusted to all of this. I never thought it would happen, so I didn't allow myself to imagine it."
"I was a bit like that myself," D'gan nodded, "because I had Stood so many times before, I'd kinda given up hope." his hand continued to stroke back and forth along Velth's side, but the dragonet had fallen into a deep sleep. "Where do you hail from?" he asked, his attention returning to Ch'bal. "She's your sister, Toncha, isn't she?" he asked, indicating the female end of the barrack block.
"Toncha? Yeah. She's two turns younger than I am." Ch'bal also glanced over her way, feeling a moment of guilt that he had not been watching out for her as closely lately. "We lived up the coast toward Topaz Sea Hold, in a little cothold with less than a dozen homes. This is a big change for us." His eyes turned back to his fellow weyrling. "How about you?"
"I've been all over the place." D'gan shrugged. "I was a runner before being Searched a couple of Turns ago. I've lost count of how many times I've Stood now." he smiled in memory, "In and out, in and out. That was me. In to Stand, out to run. It's been an interesting couple of Turns."
"We arrived here a sevenday or so before the hurricane hit. First time for both of us to Stand, so we've hardly known the Weyr as it is when not in some sort of crisis."
"Hmm...an interesting time to arrive here." D'gan replied, "Though don't judge it on just the short time you've been here. Everyone has been on edge, even I've noticed it, but I have taken into consideration the stress and strain the whole Weyr has been under. Give it time, you'll settle in. Especially now..." he nodded to the curled up green at the side of Ch'bal's cot.
The greenrider's eyes rested on Vaith. "Especially now. . ." he repeated. "I had thought to go home after the Hatching and have a dull and predictable life. That's all changed now."
"It'll never be dull and predictable again." D'gan laughed softly. "I thought I'd learnt a lot during the candidate classes, but I must admit, the classes we've had this week on Dragon emotions and how to control them, have been a lot more interesting, and I'm considering enquiring about becoming Dragonhealer once we've graduated."
"That would be interesting, but I don't know how well I could cope with injured dragons." Ch'bal glanced to Vaith, feeling a moment of panic as he pictured the green scored. As the young dragon stirred in her sleep, the young man quickly schooled his thoughts as they had been taught to do. "As to the classes - I found some of the candidate ones to be of value but didn't really pay attention all of the time. I figured that most of them didn't apply to me since I'd be heading home."
"Well they'll be retouching on some of them I would gather, like the Rank Class we had the other day." D'gan suggested.
The other young man nodded. "I hope so. I just hope that I don't mess up on anything before they do. There have been a few things that I must have remembered, at least about feeding and talking to her, because that part seemed to come fairly naturally. But when I think about flying and going /between/ and . . . other stuff, I don't know."
"Once we get that far it just means paying attention to the instructors and trust in your dragon." D'gan said, once again looking down at Velth. "For now, they rely on us... but things will change." he said, almost to himself.
"I suppose that's one of the problems," noted Ch'bal. "Right now it seems that I'm continually explaining things to Vaith, though every now and then she tells me something that surprises me. How will I teach her the things I don't even understand?"
"Eventually understanding will come, and you will find a way, but until then - ask your instructor, or the WeyrlingMaster, that's what they're there for. But..." D'gan looked intently at the younger lad, "is there something I can help you with?" he asked.
Ch'bal glanced at the other weyrling's brown and then to his own green, and shook his head. "No. . . I'm just tired and borrowing trouble. My worries are too far in the future to be of real concern now."
"Well, just know I'm here if you ever need to talk." D'gan shrugged, feeling he knew what was troubling the greenrider, but wasn't in the position to help much, regardless.
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." The young man offered his words almost automatically, but then smiled. "Sooner or later all of my questions and worries will be addressed, and in the meantime, my task is to keep them from upsetting her." He glanced down fondly on his young dragon.
"We're all having to consider things like that now." D'gan nodded, "Before Impression we could allow our minds to wander where they pleased, but now..." he gave a lopsided grin. His own thoughts had to be schooled more than a lot of the younger weyrlings, he didn't fancy having to explain some of his more lustful thoughts to Velth.
"Maybe I should have let my mind wander more before Impression," noted Ch'bal. "She may not have been such a surprise to me."
He had been right, he could feel it, and the younger boys words almost confirmed it. "You've never - erm, had thoughts like that - err, before?" D'gan asked, not quite sure how to phrase what he was thinking.
The other weyrling shook his head. "I've spent my time working and looking after my Grandda and sister. I've not had time nor opportunity to do much wandering or wondering, whether about boys or girls."
"Oh... Well you won't have to worry for a little while longer." D'gan offered in comfort, "None of us will have time, nor opportunity for quite a while."
Ch'bal nodded and gave a wry smile. "I'm counting on that. Hopefully by then I'll have sorted things out."
