K'reyel

K'reyel

The bronzerider sneezed, loudly as he held the feline at arms length.
Quite how it had managed to get into his weyr, he had no idea. But the sneezing had tipped him off to the presence of the animal.

He was pretty sure that it belonged to Gaiya, which was why he was headed in the direction of the fostermother, hoping to return it to her.

"Pepper! Pepper! Where are you?" The young woman's frantic cries echoed down the hall. "Sharding feline! What am I going to do with you?" she muttered as she half walked, have jogged down the corridor.

"Is this yours?" asked K'reyel cautiously. He had that itchy feeling that told him another sneeze was building and that whatever happened, he had to get rid of the dratted creature sooner rather than later.

"Oh yes, yes, that's him!" Gaiya flung herself at the feline. "Pepper, oh you silly, silly, little man. What am I going to do with you?" She pulled in close, covering his head with kisses and ignoring his protests.

As Gayia took the feline, K'reyel gave into the sneeze. "AAAAH - chooo!"

"Oh, Wingsecond, are you all right?" The foster mother looked at him in concern.

"Felines... They... ermm..." The usually confident K'reyel was slightly embarrased at having to admit to this. "They make me sneeze, a lot."

"They what?" Gaiya looked at him as if she hadn't quite heard him right.

"They make me sneeze," the bronzerider was looking at the ground as he spoke. "It's their fur."

The foster mother looked at him in honest surprise. "But you're a Wing_second_!"

"They did it to me as a child too," he admitted. "One of my sisters wanted one as a pet once, and when she brought it back to us, well I was sneezing for days. My parents thought I had just caught a cold, but then when it didn't go, the healers worked out what it had to be."

"Huh," Gaiya said thoughfully. "I guess I never thought about Wingleaders and Wingseconds having common allergies too." She looked at him thoughtfully. "Though I guess that's rather silly of me."

"Dad was most upset at having to tell my sister that the feline had to go."

"That must have been hard," Gaiya replied, insticntively holding a squirming Pepper even closer to her. No one could ever make her let go of _her_ feline.

"At least you have him back."

She nodded and smiled at him gratefully. "Wherever did you find him?"

"He'd got into my weyr. I wish I knew how." K'reyel grinned. "If only I'd known his secret before I took a weyrmate!" "His secret?" Gaiya asked, thinking she had missed something that she should have caught. She got that feeling a lot.

"Of getting through a closed door."

"Ah," she said with a smile. Her smile soon turned to confusion. "You needed to know how to get through a closed door before you took a Weyrmate?"

"There were a few ladies I'd have liked to get to know better, at the time."

"Oh," Gaiya laughed. "Sorry, that was probably pretty obvious. I'm just being dumb Gaiya today, I guess."

"No, no you're not, I was being obtuse."

"No, really, I'm sure you weren't being... obtuse." Gaiya gave him a reassuring smile. "Truly, sometimes I can be such a dimglow. People sometimes seem to get things faster than I do."

"I'm sure you're not a dimglow."

She shook her head sadly. "Sometimes I'm not so sure. Anyway, thank you for finding Pepper for me."

"Not a problem," he said, stifling another sneeze.

"Good night," Gaiya waved as she took her black fur-ball back to her own rooms, and contemplated just how it was that her feline walked through _her_ closed door...
