"There you go Arva," Fieayz gave the young gold a treat before attaching the message tube to a willing limb. "You know how to find Papa's office, take the message to him and make sure he gives you a reply."
The firelizard gave a cheep, before taking her place on the ledge that was her usual perch, and her favourite spot from which to make her trips.
"To Papa, now!" Fieayz waggled a finger in mock anger as the flit gave her a look.
That had the hint taken, and there was a faint sound, something that could almost be described as popping as the flit went /between/.
Causton shuffled the papers he'd just finished working on, and placed them aside on the desk. The meeting with the Masters had gone better than he could have anticipated, considering the circumstances of his arrival. He needed to pen a message to Geni to let her know how he had settled, but a cup of klah was needed first.
For a moment he thought he was imagining things, it wasn't Geni's bronze that had appeared but a small gold firelizard - and one with a message attached to its foreleg. The little gold gave a cry of alarm at the sight of him, and for a moment, he wasn't sure if he should approach it or not. He stood slowly, and the little one disappeared again...
Arva appeared back quicker than she thought, the message still attached to her leg. Fieayz looked at her.
~Not Fielton~
The flit tried to send a picture of the man sat behind the desk to hers, to make her understand what had happened. She knew the Vintner Hall all right, having taken letters to there before now, and she knew she'd get a treat, but that wasn't anyone she'd taken things to before.
"No," said Fieayz slowly. "You must have gone to the wrong place, the wrong office. You have to try again." She reached out an arm to the gold, who came to her quickly. "Find Papa's office, if he's not there, just wait for him, he'll give you a treat when he gets there, okay?"
The flit didn't look happy, but obediently did as her mistress had bid her, going back to the Vintner Hall.
He took his seat slowly, his eyes still flitting here and there around the room, checking to make sure the flit hadn't reappeared. He knew of no one with a gold firelizard, not that he was aware of, at least; so the sudden and unexpected appearance, threw him off kilter.
His eyes returned to the work in front if him, but the sudden shift of air, and light hum of fast moving wings alerted him to the appearance once more of a firelizard in his office. He looked up slowly, his eyes latching to the creature where she hovered in the air a short way in front of his desk.
His supper remained untouched on the tray which had been delivered to office a candlemark or more earlier; cold meats a hunk of bread and some sliced redfruit as well as a cold cup of half drunk klah, were all that remained. His fingers moved slowly over his desk and lighted on the meat. He allowed welcoming feelings or warmth to flood out from him to the flit and waited, holding his hand out in encouragement.
A treat, that was what she'd been told to expect. Arva came closer and closer, slowly moving towards the strange man. She gave a cheep, as if to say 'Is that for me?', and cocked her head to one side hoping that he'd take the tube from her.
Reaching forward slowly, and crooning lightly to the gold, Causton untied the message. He unfolded it, but stopped immediately he saw that it truly wasn't for him. He refolded the letter, quickly drew scribe and paper forwards, and began to pen an answer.
I'm afraid Fielton is no longer here at the Vintner Hall, he has been recalled to the Southern Crafthall.
I didn't read more than your greeting, so please do not feel I was prying. Find it returned to you with this note.
Yours, Causton (Hallmaster - Vintner Hall)
Once more proffering an edible treat to the flit, he quickly folded both notes together and inserted them into the message tube. Retying it to the gold's leg. "There you go, you little beauty." he spoke aloud.
**You can go now.**
That much Arva understood. A new message was what she'd been told to wait for. And off she went, bearing the tidings back to her mistress.
When she got there, Fieayz read the short note, wondering what this would mean for her. Would she have to leave Garnet Valley, especially now when she had so many good friends here?
