We'll see what happens

Writers: Emma, Vix
Date Posted: 9th December 2007

Characters: Carlan, Nikanna
Description: While celebrating their daughter's first birthingday, Carlan and Nikanna discuss enlarging their family - with slightly differing opinions.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 7, day 12 of Turn 4

Carlan looked down at his daughter on her first birthing day. Definitely taking after her mother, thank Faranth. "She looks like you," he said to his wife.

"A little," admitted Nikanna, "but her eyes seem to favor both of us." Rather than her own brown or Carlan's green, Ryannae peered back at her with hazel eyes, changing color depending on the light in which she was viewed.

"I'm going to have to really watch her in a few turns, the boys won't be able to stop themselves," mused Carlan. "I hope she plays with the toys we got her." There wasn't much, just a rag doll, and a few stuffed animals. After all, a child of that age still tended to put things in her mouth, or make a game of throwing them about for helpful people to retrieve.

"She will eventually," his wife told him. "My momma told me that I always played with the wrappings until they were completely worn and then started into the toys themselves." Her eyes remained on her daughter, though her voice had taken on a wistful tone, remembering both her dead mother and that number of toys that had been hers.

"She's got plenty of time to grow into them, she's only one."

Nikanna nodded. "She'll get plenty of use of them." Of course, Ryannae would never have the amount of toys that her mother had as a child. Besides those received from her parents, it seemed that every minor holder who wanted to curry favor with her father had brought toys to present to her and her siblings.

"Maybe one day she'll have to share them?" Carlan looked hopefully at his wife, they hadn't yet discussed the possibility of more children, but he hoped it would happen some day soon.

"Maybe," the young woman replied, though truth be told, she was finding it to be quite tiring to watch after the active one-turn-old, cook, keep up with laundry and the housework, plus tend to a garden in season. She could not imagine having to complete all of her chores with two children or more to chase after. In her parents' home. . . but she set that thinking aside, knowing that Carlan could not afford to hire one person to help her, let alone the retinue of servants that were employed to tend to her and her brothers and their father's household. She forced a smile. "We should probably wait until she's a little older."

"Not too much older I hope. I had brothers and sisters to play with and I want her to have that too." A wistful look crossed Carlan's face. "D'meil, well he was Dilmeil then, and Lanya all played together, then Meila and Anylin followed."

"No, not too much older," she agreed. Her spouse made a good point about having playmates for Ryannae, but the thought of running after as many as he was describing was a bit daunting. She smiled down at her daughter. "But I'm enjoying my time with this one."

"I am too." He moved to put an arm around his wife. "No rush yet, how about we just wait and see what happens?"

Nikanna leaned her head on his shoulder. "Yes. . . we'll see what happens." **And wait,** she added to herself.
