The First Day with Zephyr

Writers: Stasha
Date Posted: 20th February 2008

Characters: Alasha
Description: Alasha unveils Zephyr to her family
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 8, day 5 of Turn 4

The first morning with Zephyr was difficult for Alasha, but she managed to keep the little flit quiet so he would not wake Desamin. He ate several meals through the day, so she was constantly calling for Soneya to bring meat to the room. Never did Alasha stop doting on the little bronze firelizard who bathed in the attention she showered on him.

It was not until the evening that Alasha dared to leave her room. She would have remained barricaded behind her door, but she had to leave sometime; she could not hide Zephyr from Desamin forever. Besides, she wanted to show Zephyr to her mother. Soneya came into the room with freshly warmed water and poured it into her bathing tube, while Alasha pinned her hair up to keep it from getting wet.

Zephyr's curiosity projected to her as if wondering what she was doing.

"I'm going to clean myself," she answered with affection, but the flit still cocked his head with inquiry.

The water felt smooth and warm against her skin as she sunk into the deep tube. It was no bathing pool like she would have experienced in the weyr, but it still fulfilled its purpose. Soneya took a pitcher and poured the water on her shoulders before she applied sweet sand to Alasha's soft skin.

"He's very lovely Milady," her nanny spoke as she rubbed the sand into her skin. She glanced over to the flit who preened himself on the edge of the tub.

He winked at Soneya with his blue eyes before he turned his attention to the tub. What is this? He edged closer to the translucent liquid, but he leaned to close and lost his balance. Zephyr dropped into the tub, and Alasha quickly reached to him in panic. The little flit was capable, however, and he righted himself in the water. ~Fine~ he projected his assurance to her. He did not like the stuff in his nose and he promptly snorted it out, but he enjoyed the feel of the water under his wings and on his belly. It was as if he were flying, but without the effort.

"I think he likes it," Alasha laughed as Zephyr paddled around her proudly.

"They are remarkable creatures," Soneya remarked with a smile.

Once clean Alasha dried off while Soneya pulled out a suitable dress for the evening. Alasha continued on as she applied the scented oils to her skin. She then turned to Zephyr. "Come Zephyr," she spoke to the little beast.

He looked curiously at her, and it took a few tries before he realized that she wanted him to go to her. She smelled nice to him, he thought, and her hide was soft against his cheek.

"Hold still, Love," she dabbed some of the oil on her fingers before she rubbed the sweet scented oils into his own hide.

The rubs of oil sparked enamored croons from the flit. Her touch had just enough pressure to be pleasurable for the little firelizard, and he felt himself melt uncontrollably. His body became completely limp in her hands as she lavished him. His emotions only projected his love and devotion to her. Once she was done he licked her hands with his smooth tongue.

"Dinner will be ready soon, Milady," Soneya held the dress that she had chosen. It was simple, but Alasha would make the dress elegant regardless of how discreet it was.

The dress fell around Alasha, hugging only her torso and her waist.
Soneya made the finishing touches as she brushed through Alasha's long black hair. She pulled it back into a clip to keep the strands from flowing to her face. The black waves glided down Alasha's back, and accented the deep green dress. She was just like her mother, Soneya thought proudly to herself.

"Where is that girl?" Desamin asked of Murasha's youngest daughter.
His eyes glared suspiciously at his wife who merely hemmed at at a simple tunic for Nelaso. "I have not seen her all day, it is not like her. Is she ill?"

"What does it matter to you?" Murasha sent her own glance at Desamin, though her eyes did not hint at any submission for her husband.

The rest of their children averted their eyes except for Iriek and Demashin, who toyed with the idea of watching their youngest sister being punished.

"It is my business, as cotholder, to know where she is," he would not be challenged. He knew that brat was up to something. "Now, where is Alasha?"

"I'm right here," A voice called from the stairway.

Her family turned their eyes to their sister who stepped delicately down the stairs.

"And where have you been?" Desamin wanted an answer.

"In my room," Alasha replied as confidently as she could. Still, she feared that Desamin would harm the flit when he saw him.

Zephyr projected his love and security to her. He rubbed his small head against her neck and hid partially in her hair.

Alasha bowed to her step father and found her seat at the dinner table.

"You have a firelizard!" Edana called out. She spotted the little firelizard curled at the base of Alasha's neck. She stared at her half sister accusingly. "And it's a bronze too!"

"You have a flit?" What an outrage! And a bronze only bruised the insult. "Where in shardings name did you get a flit? You'd better answer me girl," Desamin warned his step daughter. He made his way over and stood over her.

"My father gave him to me," Alasha answered though she was not so sure of her flit's safety now.

Zephyr's eyes whirled into dangerous hues of red, and let out a hiss to the man. He did not like him.

"And when did he give you this flit?" And no one told him. It was that wife of his. She did this he thought bitterly. And it was a bronze!
That insult only rankled further in his mind.

"He gave him to me on the rest day. He only hatched last night,"
Alasha defended herself. She cupped Zephyr with her hand in attempt to shield him from Desamin, but the flit still nudged his muzzle through her fingers and glared at the man.

"Careful dear," Murasha cautioned her husband. She never rose her voice as she maintained her composure.

"What do you mean careful. You knew about this woman! And you never told me." He would never forgive her for this.

"And why did she need to tell you?" Murasha halted her work on the tunic and turned her eyes to Desamin. "So you could take him from her?"

"This is my cothold-"

"And it is _her_ firelizard," she rang out over him. Her black eyes pierced him sternly. "The flit was a gift from her father. And I would not want to tell A'berso what you did with _his_ gift to _her_." She made sure he caught her threat.

Flaming woman! He felt his face heat in anger, but he knew he could not touch the girl or his wife. Scorch them both! He let out a roar of frustration before he stormed out of the room. "Demashin! Iriek!" He called for his eldest and youngest sons.

They left the room without hesitation. Demashin was quick to send a glare at his youngest sister, which was ill received by Zephyr. The firelizard let out another hiss towards Alasha's eldest brother as he departed from the room.

"Well, that's just great!" Edana exclaimed her own annoyance at her little sister."I think I just lost my appetite. Hedona!" she called for her twin, who was more reluctant to leave.

Hedona gave a sympathetic glance to Alasha. "I'm sorry," she mouthed to her youngest sibling before she followed her twin out.

Murasha ignored her two daughters as they left the room, leaving only herself, Alasha, and Nelaso.

"Well, that went well," Nelaso spoke after a long silence. He grabbed a bowl of meat and began to serve himself, and then offered some to Alasha who turned it down. "You know, starving yourself is not going to do that flit of yours any good," he gave her an easing smile.

He was right, and she nodded allowing him to set some slabs of meat onto her plate. Murasha joined them at the table and set some mashed tubers on her plate, while Alasha poured them some water.

"So what did you name him?" Murasha asked of her daughter.

Alasha could only smile as she stroked her firelizard's hide. "Zephyr."

"That's an odd name for a flit," Nelaso grumbled, but his eyes danced in mirth.

She laughed at her brother, and finally took her first bite of food.
Everything was going to be alright now, she realized, and she took ease in that revelation. Zephyr only rubbed against her skin emphasizing her safety. Everything was going to be alright he reaffirmed to her.
