What a handsome bronze you have there," U'kaiah grinned at the young weyrling, once he had determined for sure it was really the boy he once knew at Dragonsfall. "I suppose you go by N'mor now..."

"U'kaiah!" N'mor was delighted to see the older bronzerider. A familiar face from the past. "Yes, it's N'mor now. You haven't met Kedvencth yet, have you?"

"No, I certainly haven't." U'kaiah was really happy to see he had found a lifemate so quickly. Though he was sad to see the boy leave his Weyr, he could certainly understand how he needed some space, considering the problems his family had been through the last turn.

"Now I have bronze too, like you. We're practising /betweening/ now,"
N'mor told him proudly.

"Oh my. So you're a _senior_ weyrling now." U'kaiah remembered the excitement of those days...

"Yeah, and I still can't believe it. Time's gone terribly fast. How are things in Dragonsfall?"

"Cold. We're burried in snow. You picked the perfect time to make a move!"

"Yes, didn't I," N'mor chuckled. He turned his gaze to the horizon. "I can soon travel freely on my own. Maybe I drop by to visit then." At least he should go to see his mother. She had a rough time, poor mother.

"You'd always be welcome," U'kaiah said, giving the boy a friendly knock on the shoulder. "And you know when you come of age if you decide that Dolphin Cove isn't quite home, there's always a Wingleader at Dragonsfall that would be proud to have you in his wing."

"Thank's," N'mor grinned happily. But his smile fell.

U'kaiah noticed his sudden change in mood. "I didn't say anything wrong, did I?"

"No, it's just that..." N'mor stared his boots. "I don't always feel welcome here. I've been acused of stealing their dragon. Coming from another weyr and that. And then there's that stuff with my sister and her baby." He sighed. "I don't know if I want to stay here but I don't know if I want to go back to Dragonsfall either. I'm kind of worried that Mom might cling to me, me being the youngest." He wasn't sure if his rambling made sense, but just saying out aloud to someone was making him feel better.

"Sounds like a tough situation," the wingleader said thoughfully. "But at least you have a beautiful lifemate either way you choose."

"So true," N'mor sighed and glanced Ked, who had spread himself to catch sun's rays.

"Don't worry about the people who say you don't belong here," U'kaiah said, laying a hand on the boy's shoulder. "You didn't steal him from anyone. He had his chance to look them over and he found them lacking.
Remind them of that next time they tell you that you don't belong here.
You belong with him, and always will."

"Yeah," N'mor grinned. "You can't force the impression." Taking to U'kaiah was already cheering him up and making him feel better. This was what he had missed most: older, wiser friend he could confide with. Someone to listen his worries and tell him everything was all right.

"Good lad," the older bronzerider smiled. "So you're going /between/ now, eh? So you're a senior weyrling then."

"Yeah. And I still need to find some girl to teach me..." N'mor blushed.

"Are you sure you're ready for that?" U'kaiah had been experienced before he had become a weyrling, but he could understand that not all were ready as early as he apparently had been.

"I don't know," N'mor admitted. "But Ked is bronze, he is going to Chase."

"What's stopping you?"

"I don't seem to know how to approach women on the matter. Last time I tried I got a slapped into the cheek," N'mor said dryly.

U'kaiah certainly hadn't had that problem. "Well, how did you approach her?"

N'mor tried to remember how it had went, it had been before his impression. "Pretty straightforwardly," he said.

Someone had certainly not explained the nicer facts of life to this young man very well! "That might be part of your problem. The straightforward approach only works with certain women, and even then there's some subtle communication that as to proceed the conversation."

"Sounds like I have lot to learn"; N'mor sighed.

"Well, you're lucky. I'm a wonderful teacher." At least in this. "Why don't we go grab a couple pints of ale from the kitchens and discuss this in your weyr like men, huh?"

"All right!" the youngster said eagerly.
