Our Secret Will Be Safe...

Writers: Eimi, Shelly
Date Posted: 19th October 2005

Characters: Gaiya, L'cian
Description: Gaiya *sniff, sniff* breaks off her relationship with L'cian
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 24 of Turn 3

Gaiya had never asked L'cian to meet her on the beach in broad daylight before. She figured that would have tipped him off that something was wrong. His broad smile as he walked over to her told the young woman that it hadn't.

"Bit risky to try and get something going out here in the middle of the day, don't you think?" He laughed. "My little Gaiya isn't developing a taste for public places, is she?"

"Actually, L'cain," she replied with a half smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "today I just need to talk to you."

L'cian couldn't stop his face from falling. "This...
is not good." He nodded slightly to himself. "Let's sit then, if there's bad news I want to take the appropriate precautions."

"Well, I don't know if its really all _that_ bad,"
Gaiya said reassuringly as they sank down to sit in the sand. "I mean, it's not like I never want to see you again or anything."

"Awww it's one of _those_!" L'cian groaned a little and reclined in the sand. "You don't have to lead into this, I've heard _this_ talk enough times to know what's coming next. It's ok. You can just say it." He made sure that there was a playful tone in his voice.

"Alright," she shrugged and smiled. "I can see you all I want, but I can't have sex with you anymore."

L'cian sighed a little. "Well I can't say I didn't expect as much...."

** Ar'lis, your advice isn't worth a shard. **

Gaiya reached over to take his hand. "L'cian, it's nothing that you did or didn't do. I have to admit, I truly enjoyed the time we spent just the two of us. You are a wonderful man, and you could make me _feel_
wonderful, but Ar'lis and I..."

L'cian felt like all the wind was knocked out of him when he heard the name of the man taking Gaiya from him - Ar'lis. Ar'lis who had offered him advice about how to keep Gaiya! All he could do was nod a little and keep his eyes focused on the skies.

She could see this was a bit of a shock and unwelcome news. Gaiya had been afraid of that. Though she had made it clear from the beginning, she could tell L'cian had started to grow a bit more attached than a casual fling. It was best to end it for his sake. "L'cian," she said as she gently reached up to turn his face towards her.
"I hope we can still be good friends."

"...Of course." He shrugged a little and did his best to appear casual.
"I'm glad that you've finally settled down with Ar'lis
- I know you've had a thing for him for a while now. Congratulations."
He stood up and after shaking sand off him, offered Gaiya a hand up.

As she stood and looked up at him worriedly. "Are you sure you're all right with this, L'cian?"

"You're not the first pretty girl I've lost to someone else," he smiled softly and kissed her on the cheek. "I'll miss you, but I'll be all right."

"But, hey, on the bright side," she said as she tucked her arm into his with a teasing grin, "at least now we can have meals and be seen in public together and we can be trusted to keep our hands to ourselves.
Our secret will be safe, right?"

"Right."
