Only Sixteen

Writers: Bree, Eimi
Date Posted: 21st October 2005

Characters: Dyaera, J'tak
Description: J'tak lets slip to Dyaera that D'cal and L'nar got friendly.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 15 of Turn 3

J'tak had become as fast with his crutches as he had been on two legs. He also admired the nice bit of muscle he had put on in his upper body from carrying his own weight around every day. Who better to admire his new assets than his old friend and sometimes lover! "Dyaera? Are you here?"

"In here!" her voice came from the sleeping chamber. "Is that you, J'tak?"

"Yeah, can I come in?"

Her laugh drifted out from the other room. "Of course. If I didn't want to talk to you, I would have pretended I wasn't here."

J'tak popped his head into the sleeping chamber. "Ah, there you are. You look better."

"Do I?" Dyaera was propped up against her pillows, trying to read the novel one of the healers had dropped off with her. She wasn't much for reading, but she had to do _something_ other than sleep. "I am so _tired_ of lying in this bed, J'tak!" He could imagine how she felt. J'tak had been going stir crazy after only a couple sevendays. More than a month would have been hard. "Well, how is the rehabilitation going?"

Dyaera made a face. "It's _horrible_. It's nothing but hurting and getting tired and hurting some more."

"Fabulous, I'll have something to look forward to," the bluerider grimaced as he took a seat on the chair next to her bed and stretched his leg out in front of him. "When they take this sharding cast off I will have to do a bit of rehab myself. Though, not as strenuous as yours I should think."

"You'd better hope not," Dyaera replied tartly, grinning at him. "You'd cry like a baby."

"Would not," he protested. "I'd cry like a man, thank you very much."

"Uh-huh..." She gave the mattress next to her a pat. "Haul your broken arse up here and sit with me." The bluerider did as he was bid and settled his leg onto the seat his broken arse had just occupied. "So you're not upset about L'nar and D'cal, are you?"

Dyaera froze. "What? _What_?" "Exactly," J'tak said with an emphatic nod. "_Exactly_! That's just what I said when Leshida told me. I mean, shard it all, if it weren't for my sharding leg it would have been _me_. I'm a bluerider, after all! I can understand what he's going through..."

J'tak was rewarded with an elbow in the side. "Shut up. Just... _shut up_
and tell me what you are talking about before I strangle you." "Oooowwww, Dyaera! Careful! I was just talking about D'cal and L'n..."
Realization dawned on the bluerider, as usually, way too late. "Oh shards, Dyaera, I thought you _knew_! I mean, why would L'nar tell Leshida if no one was supposed to know? Everyone knows she can't keep a secret!"

Dyaera was wondering why L'nar hadn't seen fit to tell _her_ the details of his encounter with D'cal. Somehow the words 'D'cal was really upset' failed to describe the situation. "Oh, that is just fine. I hope it was really _sharding_ good sex, since he destroyed any chance I had of getting any! I suppose _one_ of us should be enjoying ourselves!" "Well, I wouldn't say it was all that great an experience from what I hear.
But I think I should just shut up now."

"I'm sorry I hit you in the side," Dyaera replied in a subdued voice, slumping back into her pillows. "I... was kind of surprised." "Well... I'm sorry I let it slip. I wouldn't have told you like that if I had known." J'tak sighed heavily. "I just ruined things for you guys _again_, didn't I."

Dyaera sighed. "I don't care _who_ he sleeps with, J'tak. But if he's going to keep getting upset when I spent time with other men, he had _better_
start sleeping with me! Because otherwise, I'm going to strangle _him_." "So it's ok that D'cal slept with L'nar then?" J'tak asked carefully.

"Yes," Dyaera replied grumpily. "Though it's not very fair that L'nar got to him first." "And so... It wouldn't bother you if _I_ got to D'cal...?"

Dyaera's good hand tangled in his hair painfully. "If you _touch_ him before I get a chance, I will break your other leg." "Ouch! Shards! All right! All right! I'll stay away from him!" the bluerider agreed.

"That's what I thought." Dyaera released his hair and smiled up at him sweetly. "So. Can we stop talking about all of the sex we're not getting while we're injured and bedridden?" "Yeah, I guess so," J'tak replied as he rubbed at his throbbing scalp.
Silence stretched on between them for a few moments. "So what is there left to talk about?"

"Uhhm..." Dyaera thought for a few moments. "Is it going to make me sound really shallow if I can't think of anything else?" "No, I can't think of anything either...." They sat in silence for a few moments before J'tak finally turned to her. "I can't do to much with this leg of mine, but hey, you wanna make out?"

"Yes, please," Dyaera replied gratefully, sliding her hand back into his hair and pulling him down for a kiss. So maybe she couldn't think of anything to do besides gossip about sex and make out... but she _was_ only sixteen. And he was just a male...
