Description: Dysali remembers an innocent conversation in the midst of grief.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 8 of Turn 4
The sun glinted off the weyrlake, brightly and very hot. It was almost blinding and she had to shade her eyes to look out at Lillyth.
Her green dragon was flaunting herself again - Dysali thought she might Rise again in the next month or so - and with a lovely brown dragon, just like she had often done with Tynnath, the tease.
}:It is Brigeth and I am not flaunting! I am splashing!:{ Dysali smiled, but it was weak. No, it wasn't Tynnath. She thought she could remember that day very clearly, now.
************
Who was that brown Lillyth was cozying up to out in the lake? Dysali looked closer and then peered around for any familiar faces. When she didn't find any immediately, she sent to her green flirtacious dragon. **Who is that you're showing off for, silly green? Menanth may get jealous.** She teased, knowing that was not very likely.
}:It is Tynnath. His rider is that small one that Menanth's likes and Hasaarth's too. He is very handsome, don't you think?:{ Dysali snorted at her dragon, then paused to consider all the information Lillyth had just imparted to her. Dragons were, indeed, horrid gossips if her green knew all _that_ about the brown dragon she was splashing.
I'ster, oh yes. She remembered now; he was a bit shy though he had come to a few of their parties.
And there he was, sitting on the sand watching Tynnath and Lillyth.
Turning toward him, she tossed her towel beside the curly headed young man and grinned at him. He looked as tired as she felt after a hard day of drills; that had been the hardest thing about moving up to the Wings early.
"Hey there, I'ster! Lillyth is pestering your Tynnath something fierce, my apologies."
He gave her a tired smile. "Tynnath doesn't mind at all. I'd swear that he could fly drills twice as long as we do each day and still have energy left over, yet I'm exhausted before we even finish."
Dysali nodded in agreement. "Me too. Even though I've been flying a couple months now, its not gotten a lot easier. But I really enjoy it! Lillyth loves to flame Thread from the skies. We got 'Scored once, but it was a minor one. But we'll grow into it, I'ster.
Especially you, with your wonderful brown there!"
"And that's what'll make it all worthwhile!" His exhaustion fell away as he spoke, his face now animated. "Tynnath tells me every 'Fall that we need to flame and I've had to hold him back. But now – now we'll get to actually do it!"
Dysali grinned broadly at I'ster. "It is very exciting, my friend.
Dangerously so, but still quite the experience. Lillyth is so funny; she thinks she can do anything! Which is alright, really, because sometimes I need her to do anything. I have trouble getting her to leave after our half of 'Fall is over. She nearly always battles me on it, but then when we get back to the Weyr, she admits she's tired.
Silly green." She winked at him. "You'll not have to worry about your brown, though, flying the whole 'Fall as you will."
"He'll not get tired, but I might." I'ster sighed at that revelation.
"Hopefully that won't distract him."
"It won't, I'ster. He'll take it all on himself, like they all do.
Just drill hard and trust Tynnath, my friend. You'll be fine!" She grinned again at him. "Do we need to go separate those two silly dragons?"
The young man shook his head. "It's a lost cause, at least as far as Tynnath is concerned. I can't seem to keep him from bothering the older dragons – especially the greens."
"Well,. and no wonder, he's trying to win himself a mate, hmm?" Dysali teased her younger friend, watching him for telltale signs of blushing.
And that blush was almost immediate in manifesting itself. "Uh. . .
yeah. Someday he'll win a flight."
Dysali grinned to herself, turning back to the dragons with renewed interest. "He will, I'ster, and so will you." Maybe even Lillyth's...
**************
Yes, she remembered that day.
}:Tynnath is not here any longer. Why are you remembering him? I liked him, but he is gone now. :{ There was a pause as Dysali tried to digest Lillyth's reactions.
And then.
}: Will you come and wash me? I itch.:{ Lillyth said plaintively, which was enough to boot Dysali to her feet and into the warm water.
