Don't You Worry

Writers: AL, Kaysea
Date Posted: 20th September 2008

Characters: Causton, Geni
Description: Geni checks on her husband and worries over his illness.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 4

He tossed and turned tangling himself in the bedcovers, his hacking
cough echoed around the room. It had been days since he had fallen
ill, and he hadn't been out of bed for longer than it took to go to
the necessary. Forehead beaded with sweat, he mumbled incoherently in
his sleep.

"Causton." A gentle voice was accompanied by a gentle hand upon his
arm, ginerly pressing at him to awaken. "I want you to take this."
The voice urged.

"Wha...?" he rolled over, tangling himself even further in the covers,
so that he loked like a meatroll fresh from the kitchens - his face
red and sweaty appearing fromt he top of the covers. "What is it?"
his eyes opened slowly, they were heavily swollen only increasing how
ill he looked.

"Drink this." Geni insisted and she held up a mug of steaming liquid.
She was getting worried. The fever was persistent and while she
refused to bring it down for the fever would help him fight whatever
was ailing him, the fact it had continued for so long troubled her
greatly.

"Oh...okay." he pulled himself up to a semi sitting position and took
the mug from her, smelling it before he put the rim to his lips.
"Shards, nothing ever tastes good these days." he said once he had
swallowed half the liquid. "Does it have to taste so bad?" he turned
rheumy eyes on her.

"Yes." Geni smiled a little as she placed a gentle hand upon his
thigh. "Any improvement at all?"

"Well my ears and throat feel better." he admitted, "But I still feel
hot and cold by degrees."

"Hm." It wasn't good, not good at all. Could the infection be
spreading to his lungs? What if his body, even with the assistance of
herbs couldn't combat it? Geni didn't want to think about that.
"Finish the tea, dear." She said softly.

"I will. But I need you to do something for me?"

"Anything, love." Geni leaned closer so he didn't have to talk any
louder than necessary. "What do you want?"

"I need to speak with both Daigoro and Zandreu about the Turns End
celebrations. I know Daigoro has a lot on his plate - so I thougt I'd
get Zandreu to organise it all down at the Tavern."

"Don't you worry about a thing." Geni insisted, pointing to the mug.
"Finish that, lie down, and I'll go and talk to Zandreu myself."

"But I still need to see them both!" Causton warned, though right now
he was too tired to talk.

"Yes, of course. When you're a little better." Geni's tone was her
own warning that she was not about to let Causton exert himself in any
way shape or form. "But I can at least give him the message for now."

"Thank you, dear." he mumbled, as he pulled the covers back up and over
his shoulder as he slid back down on his bed.

Geni clasped the mug she had taken from him before he returned to his
resting state. She held onto it tightly. He should have been getting
better, but he didn't seem to be improving much at all. Well, he
wasn't getting worse, but that held little consolation for her.
Finally, the woman stood and made her way out of the room. He needed
as much rest as possible. She would go talk to Zandreu. Hopefully
that would help ease his mind.
